I don't suppose you could stop typing like you are in a chat room? If your grammer is this way due to making banners at school then please pay more attention in English class... the org isn't worth sacrificing an education over.

As for the rules they have changed/are changing with the introduction of the new logo. Also, people are not perfect and banners that should have been rejected sometimes make it through. This entire site is run by volunteers. It isn't like people will be docked pay for screwing up or having a life while the banner approval queue keeps growing. Mistakes will slip through occasonally.

It may be understandable to you, but it's annoying as hell to the rest of us. If you're too lazy to type properly then you might as well not bother.

Let me ask you this: do you want to be taken seriously, or treated like another generic 13 year-old AOHeller?

u no i can't really say i care how people think of me and if they take me seriously or not... especially when the only thing wrong with my grammar is that i don't capitalize anything, and sometimes spell some things differently, like 'my' as 'mai' which is perfectly easy to understand if you actually read it. so yeah.. and anyways how did we get onto this topic anyway, since this has nothing to do with banners. and i may to be too lazy to capitalize, so what.. take the extra five seconds to realize that, and what i type becomes easy to read. that makes you just as lazy as me...

ur write eye think whee shud all speek oar tipe rathur n wutever langwaj whee r cumphturbl whith b/c clearlee undurstanding ppl iz ohvur8ed

The above sentence is readable to me. However, if I want to communicate with other people, I try to use the best language I can to convey my point to others and avoid misunderstandings. If you're going to continue to use these boards, then I would politely ask that you respect the rest of the readers here by doing the same. It's possible to show how special and distinctive you are through the tone of your posts, so there's no need to do so with your own special brand of language.

Also, in general, banners that negatively represent the site will be rejected. Why? Because we would rather encourage new people to join the site and if they see banners that say stuff like "Hey, we are all huge gaping assholes here!" with pictures of requiett on them we think that might discourage people.

i'm not understanding the problem with an opinion banner, opinions are not negative. if you're reffering to the fact that it leans toward the idea that most people do not write good opinions.. so what, it's true. they don't.

and also that sentence is not in any way similar to what i type, it took me like 3 mins to read that. this is how i've been typing since the 7th grade online, so i'm not going to start capitalizing letters just because someone tells me to. besides, lowercase letters are much easier to read than capital letters

and now i'm sitting here wondering how i got into an argument with like four people about my typing when all i wanted to know was how to fix that banner so that it wouldn't be rejected

I think the problem with opinion banners is that A, the site isn't just about leaving opinions, and B, 'leave an op!' banners have been done to death.

We're not asking for Ivy League-level grammar, but using 'no' in place of know, 'u' instead of you, and 'mai' instead of my makes you sound childish, immature, and rather unintelligent.

There is a social contract of sorts when you go onto a forum - if you expect us to take what you say seriously, then we expect you to type like a goddamned human being.

It builds up over time since you're a regular poster. Once someone finally came out and mentioned it, the rest fell into line. And you know, I like your posts - you tend to have a lot to say, and it's usually interesting to read. But it *is* difficult to read when you start a sentence with "u no i".

It's not that you don't capitalize words. It's that you purposely use the wrong words just because they're shorter - no instead of know seems to be a favorite of yours. It's painful reading sentences that are written in code. You can't skim over it with your eyes recognizing the familiar words and letting you read by entire phrases. Instead, you have to sit there pause on each 'u' and make sure it's a 'you' and not a miscellaneous letter from some typo. You blink at the 'dun' and wonder if that's a country slang for 'done', or if some off-topic discussion of horse colors just popped into the sentence. It's like, "Okay, that no is really a know because if it were a no the sentence wouldn't make any kind of sense...at least...I hope that's a know...maybe it is a no and the its really is an its and not an it's...if it were possessive the entire meaning of the sentence changes...Aw, Jeeze! This is too much trouble!"

Then I skip down to the next poster and wish there were a translator following you around so I could read what you have to say. I missed out on the 'chat-speak' and 'l33t' language days by a good 4 years. I'm too old to sit down and learn it now. So, yes, it's a pet peeve. Now that someone's mentioned it, I'd bet there are a lot of people who'd like to ask you to write differently.

But it's up to you. Me, I don't read past the first 'no' instead of 'know' unless it's a new member who needs help. I'm not that patient with older members.
