I actually remember seeing a dramatic FF video that had a pretty long blank-screen section in it. I saw it a long time ago, but I remember thinking it kind of added to the dramatic effect because it made the viewer really pay attention to the song at that point (it was a quiet section of the song) and then when the video picked up again, it made it seem more powerful. But I also remember thinking it was a very lazy thing to do.

I think if implimented properly it is a very powerful tool. While floating hexagons would be on one end of the spectrum, solid black would be on the opposite side. I imagine it would be a lot more difficult to pull of correctly but then again, the "less is more" style is always infinitely harder to pull off than the saturation style.

i belive it all depends on the audio.... the best thig i can think of comes not from an AMV, but tarantino's kill bill 2...

SPOILER ALERT!!!!

the scene where the bride is buried alive, and the last light beams fades out to black, while hearing only her breathing.... in a room w/ no lights exept the light from the screen / TV (which doesnt come since its all black) the fealing is pure clastrophobic.... like being in a buried alive, hence, the greatness of the scene.... its all in the audio.....

After reading this thread, I thought I'd mess with the idea a little bit. I think it adds to the weirdness and fun of the video. You tell me..

It's a minute long.. Well do you think it adds something, or do you think something has to be there in those black spaces. I personally liked the way it turned out.

it looks likes there were missing scenes in your timeline, rather then intentional black scenes..... maybe fade out the clips instead of a "hard cut" ?

I have a creator friend who is fond of the "black screen technique". In one song the music went silent for about a second and then picked up more loudly than before, having about a second of black looked great there. But in her other videos she'll have lots of pauses of black screens, and while they're excellent otherwise (the vids), all of the dead time can get annoying and seems a bit lazy.

The topic title makes no sense. If you have nothing to show, then you obviously can't even attempt to show it. So you can't show it in the first place.
