First I'd first like to know why you know it was one person. It could have easily been two or three. And two, people are entitled to their start ratings. If they only give out ones (or just the same score repeatedly), their star ratings aren't counted.

Well, I am assuming it is just one for the others. But for Oscar's Revelation, it probably was more than one, since it resulted in such a humongous dip.

Again, I am not accusing anyone in particular. I have no clue whatsoever who it could be- after all, I have not really received an AMV FLAME yet. I just get paranoid and upset at low ratings. I work hard on my AMVs and want them to be rated high.

With that kind of additude, you won't be getting what you want.

I'll try. We're here for the fun. It's not life or death, nor the end of the world.

There's nothign to you can do about this... Get over it. I made 2 videos and I know they suck because they were both done in around 3-4 hours each using already encoded episodes. Yes, they got low ratings, but my AMV I'm looking on is a result of the criticism that I got from all the creators who gave me their opinion of what they thought was wrong. For instance. My Outlaw Star video. The opening clip is 1 minute and 8 seconds. Nailz said I didn't edit the video at all. So, I took my second video and edited it, but it had encoding problems and not too many people were fond of the music. It was also random effects. Yes, it scored better than my first video, but that was because I improved based upon advise people gave me. My latest video(s) are pretty good quality, and in one of them, I don't have a clip longer than maybe 40 or 50 frames. This sort of acts as my "sync" video to me, playing with syncronization. I think I did a good job, and so did the people I showed it to.

I don't pay attention to star ratings at all, but I do love the occasional opinion. Do I get paranoid over it? No. Do I think it's the best video out there? No. Do I do this to improve my abilities and so others can see how I have improved and maybe give me another chance at videos? Yes.

This hobby is for fun. Don't instantly think that you're the best there is, and the same for your videos. Don't hold them to a certain standard either. I complained about some of the VCA results, and AD simply said "the public has spoken" and that's how I look at most video ops now-a-days. I just don't think you seem to see that at all.

/end rant

Just to have it said in this thread -

When you complain about unfair low scores in this forum and the thread gets to 2 pages, you get attention. People are likely to download your videos just to see what you're complaining about. This means people who wouldn't have otherwise watched the vids, are now forced to review those videos. They're more likely to give low scores than those who downloaded the videos because they were interested in the source material.

If you really got a single star on each of your vids at once, you can pretty much bet it's because of this thread. You made someone curious to see your work. So he downloaded them. Unfortunately, they didn't meet his standards. That is what you should expect when you make a thread like this.

/fyi

It's the same thing with announcement threads that get to 2 pages - people who aren't really interested in the video are more likely to download it just to see what the fuss is about. And those people, outside the target audience, are more likely to be harsh with the ratings. You should come to expect this.

If you don't want feedback from 'strangers,' don't bring your vids to their attention. If you don't want feedback from anyone who doesn't like your vids, don't make them available - just send them to your friends over aim.

How about rephrasing your attitude from what was said to...
"I work hard on my AMVs and want them to be rated."

That should give you a better outlook on things. I don't consider myself a great editor and I hardly have a fan following but unlike what others may be thinking, I did originally make amvs to compete and to win. [Odorikuruu killer anyone?     ]

Not just for my own enjoyment. Then I discovered that though I hate editing, I always turned out loving my final product and all my toil and effort was worth it to me. Lo and behold, some other people started agreeing with me and blam. Good ratings.

"If you think you'll be complete only when you get the Gold Medal, you'll never be complete." - Cool Runnings quote.

Still, if you do have a burning competitive spirit and make amvs so you can be praised, hey, I'm not against it. Hell, that's what I used to make amvs for, just to get attention! [and a teeny tiny part of me still likes said attention]

You should ask yourself, why'd you start making amvs in the first place? Odorikuruu was a ton of fun for me so it's the inspiration that got me into it. What's yours?

"You had to lose today Calam or you'd never win again." - Wild Bill

Some people don't like losing. I don't win much if at all. Just have fun with the vids and accept the scores/ratings you've recieved. Got flames? Ignore them. It's even better if you look at the people who flamed your score and notice they've never edited a good amv themselves. But if it's one of our "big name" people, I HIGHLY doubt they'd resort to opinions utilizing useless flames. All the amv editors I've seen here with any reputation at all have been excellent people and very helpful to myself and the site.

My advice, if you're looking for high scores, NEVER STOP LOOKING!!! They'll come your away only if you want it hard enough and train your editing to earn them.

Good luck! :D

Thanks for the encouragement.

The part about the connection between the low scores and this thread kinda makes sense. But I did NOT see it coming. Was I supposed to know?

I do want my videos to get attention and get rated and opinions. Even if not all the aspects are superb. I do appreciate constructive criticism. Just not flames.

I do enjoy making AMVs because it is another outlet for my creativity and my love for anime. But I have such a competitive streak, that it does discourage me if I get low ratings.

Sorry, but I get too many flashbacks of people, both IRL and on the net, making fun of me for the pettiest things. It's like their lives revolve around making the lives of people like me impossible. Glad I have not seen anyone like that in a-m-v.org yet.

Be very careful about attributing to much importance to a small number of stars. Unlike oppinions, the star system was designed to be more statistical in nature. 5 stars are meaningless. Only when you get a hundered or so stars can you even begin to draw conclusions.

On that note if someone gives it a one, who gives a shit? If the video is good then it will get canceled out by more accurate oppinions, that's how statistics work. If the video is not so good then practise and make a better one.
