not true imo.

if the song is terrible, your video is never going to be better than terrible.

I do agree.

But overused stuff will probably get you a less than stellar rank when it comes to originality. Not to mention the fact that unless the song/anime is one of the person's top favorites, the AMV will not get as many downloads as a more unique concept.

I have to disagree with that.
A lot of my AMVs have very unique concepts, and they are hardly downloaded. The most i have is a 150 downloads.
If i were to create a, let's say, Naruto or Yu Yu Hashiku video with a very popular song it would get ten times as much downloads.
But that's something i wouldn't go for, i always stick to what i like, and that is to do different stuff.

Well I have already scrapped my Evandread trilogy-project. It was supposed to be character profiles for each 3 special pilots (Dida, Meia, Jura) with for each of them a different evanescence song. Bring me to Life would have been for Meia.

Anyone want to use that concept.. go ahead. I have better projects brewing :3

I wonder what makes Linkin Park and Evanescence so popular with AMV makers. I know they are currently popular, but there are many other currently popular bands and artists at the moment. Plus there are multiple classic tunes that can be used. And some genres get nearly overlooked, such as country.

Quite possibly the lyrical content. LP's songs are like destined to be used in AMV's. Songs like "Crawling" describe almost all male characters from animes with serious thematics.

I disagree with that, I could make a good Noir AMV to a Powerman5000 song if I did it right.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. I was talking about the video from an audience's point of view. If the audience doesn't like your song, they aren't going to enjoy it. With the rare exception of certain comedy videos, thats the bottom line. They can appreciate all the blood sweat and tears that go into the video but they won't enjoy it.

My whole point was that the entire concept of "If I did it right" isn't a point at all, but rather completely meaningless in terms of enjoyment value.

Yea, but take into account the differences between viewers. There's many different audiences a creator can aim for.

For instance, I would be the perfect audience for some things that to most people ears would be the most atrocious piece of crap. But if the editor was aiming for an audience of a few weirdos like me all along, then what the others think is irrelevant.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
