First AMV Ever! Full Metal Alchemist - Drown

Post by Dreakon » Thu Mar 03, 2005 11:04 pm

I have been thinking about making an AMV for a while (but got scared because it seemed so complicated whenever I tried) and when I heard this song and listened to it many, many, many times I finally decided to go for it. It's a fairly simple video, no big flashy effects going off every 2 seconds and not 100 scene changes per minute, but I feel after watching it and making slight adjustments every so often to match syncing, it went pretty well.

The song is Drown by Three Days Grace and of course, the anime is Full Metal Alchemist.

I don't expect everyone to love it, or even like it, but if you don't like it please give some constructive criticism on how to make it better. The worst thing to do to a up-incoming AMV maker is to say it sucks and not give them any clues on how to get better.

Before I forget, here's the link to it:

Enjoy and I am looking forward to what you think! ;)

Hello,

Saw your video... The major issue with it, in my opinion, is the video is not being timed to the beats of the song. It appears that all that is being done is you are placing clips in (almost entire scenes at that) and that's it. In an AMV (or, any music video for that matter, I would have to say) it's not just the music that is suppose to catch the view, but the visuals timed to the music. I do not know how well I'm explaining this and perhaps someone else will explain it better, but I hope you do get some idea of what I'm trying to say. Anyone can put music and video together... the art lies in putting them together in a way that compliments each other... a way that enhances both beyond just themselves.

Anyway, that's my two cents and I hope you keep trying! Really! People in this forum can be very brutal... don't let that stop you from learning, making new videos, and posting them to the site!

I understand completely. I watch AMV's all the time and great timing is what usually gets me too. I know I didn't use quite as many scenes as I could have to make it really good, but I did (personally) feel that the beat of the song went with the video pretty well. Might just be that creators bias coming out though. ;)

I know my video is far from "great" or even good in some peoples opinions , but I enjoyed making it, my friend enjoyed watching it so I figured 'what the hell?' and I posted it on here to get some more opinions. And you did just what I ask and I thank you. :)

More opinions are welcome, or you can just watch and say "boy that sucked" and move on. ;)

it's ok, ur just lucky i am ****ing tired so i'm not picky.
Perhaps work on timing like said before, but the music could go along with *gasp* fighting. Not just some girl with a cat, though the alchemy things on the floor look good with the music.

But the girl has a good expression, perhaps it could stay. BUt i highly doubt you are going to listen to me and change it. But the song sort of sucks with the whole series. Wait..i am being picky. Well, lukcy u. Blah blah blah..crazy scenes. Otherwise it is ok...probably...

All good suggestions. My main problem seemingly as I made this was I didn't want to just put in random scenes everywhere flashing on and off over and over again. I only have up to episode 16 of FMA on my PC (non-subbed and high quality) so I dont think I have gotten deep into the fighting in the series.

I wanted to give the video a natural progress over just throwing a million different scenes together and have them fade in and out whenever a part of the song that relates to them comes up. What better way then to just span an episode rather then showing clips from the 16 I have? Maybe not the best episode for the song, but hey, I am still learning. ;)

As always, more opinions are welcome but if you have nothing constructive to say, please dont.

P.S: You can be picky, lol, and I will learn from what you people tell me. I am learning though that a good AMV takes more time then 2 days (with limited time each day) to make...

are u learning from me? I'm so happy...
yes, a problem is nto having enough episodes. But a secret is to steal them from other music videos. I do it occasionally, but becareful only yo copy clips not the music, linkin park being interrupted by mozart isnt; good.

Oh, ask permission first before you take thier clips, even if it isn't stealing if you take clips from random places.
