I never said that all videos were easily categorized, so I'm not sure why you're arguing with me on that point.

...and if the system doesn't run off the checkboxes, then I'm sorry; I was led to believe that it did, from what the admins said in the past.

...and in that case, why doesn't it? At least for the categories for which there are corresponding genres in the DB.

I think it was to add a little lee-way for those vids that span multiple categories. Idealy, a person only checks 3 categories per vid (that's the suggested amount when you first mark categories). So for things like action, drama, romance, dance, fun, comedy, parody - you could have gone into the 'fun' section to pick your comedy favorites, or over into 'drama' to pick your favorite character profile vid. [I did both.]

I think the only categories that were locked-down were Effects, No-Effects, Instrumental (not sure on this one), Trailer, and Best First.

Think of the Sentimental category. Very few vids were listed in that list, so I'm sure many people crossed over into drama and romance to pick their favorites (I know I did). It's a new category, and few people have added it to their vid descriptions. If we could only pick the vids listed in that category, we'd have had a much smaller selection. And Sentimental is one of those 'up to the viewer' categories to begin with.

...what? Ideally, the editor checks all the categories that apply.

So you're saying that there were no good "comedy" videos this year? Why not just state that?

I don't see why this is a problem. If the editor is not paying attention and doesn't sign up their videos into the proper categories, I don't think they really deserve to get into that category.

Why is everyone so keen to have the admins interfere when all it would take is the editors being on the ball in the first place? Why is setting up your video info properly this unsurmountable task? I've done it some 15 times. It can't be that hard, surely. (Language barriers aside.)

I know I said I was done here but I wanna clear this up. I am NOT asking the admins to interfere. What I asked for was a system where the CREATOR has to enter their video for competition and what catagories it goes in. This does not increase admin control or interference at all. The admins would, of course, need to code this for next year but once the form was done then there would be no more admin interference than there is under the current setup.

I guess it depends on whose ideal you're talking about. When you first fill out your vid description, it says to pick 3 categories. Yes, you can list all that apply, but it recommends you pick the 3 that fit best in your opinion. When I said 'ideally' I meant according to the way the site is set up.
So you're saying that there were no good "comedy" videos this year? Why not just state that?
I didn't say that. I said I chose a video that was listed in the fun (and parody) categories as one of my comedy choices to nominate. I didn't say there weren't good videos in the comedy category. I said there was at least one good video (good to me) that wasn't in that category.

I'd rather they not interfere myself. I'd like to have control over my own video. That's why I like this idea. If I make a video I think fits best into drama, I'd like the option to eliminate it from running in things like character profile or romance (even if the video has both qualities). Letting the creator pick one 'vca category' to run the video in gives the creator more control. The only reason we'd need admin interference is because we can't do anything without their 'go ahead.'
