There's a difference in remaking a video and copying and pasting a video onto a new timeline with different music. That would be almost as bad as taking one scene from a movie, playing it backwards, and claiming it's some sort of avant-garde art.Farlo wrote:i remember when everyone was pissed off when some kid remade caldwell's engel video with the english version of the song
remake/remaster some1 elses amv without taking credit

If I were ever to remaster or remake another editor's amv (with my own source footage, of course) I'd most likely just keep it to myself. After all, it'd be my own personal gripe that prompted the remake in the first place. If I really wanted to share the video, I'd definitely get permission from the original creator first - in a very, very tactful and gracious manner.

But yeah as said, only upload with permission of the creator. I've seen people doing that and it was worth it

I plan to do this, though it will be more of a remaster than a remake. I was watching one of my favorite vids, an old 'first of its kind' video and realized that the quality was awful and that as many times as I tried to get people to watch it, they wouldn't because of the fuzzy quality. So I emailed her, talked to her a bit and guess what?
She was very supportive of it being remastered. If she had the footage, she'd have done it herself a year or two ago. And since I plan to keep the editing as close to the original as possible, we decided to release the video as a joint (multi-editor) video. That means it would be listed on both of our profiles (think animix), with me as the 'remastered footage holder' and her as the original editor.
It's entirely legitimate, and there's nothing 'underhanded' or insulting about it. My wanting to remaster her video was a sign of how great I think it is - and my irritation that other people won't watch it because of the quality.
Just keep in mind that I did nothing before I spoke to her. And I'm not taking her video. She'll get to watch as many betas as it takes until *she* thinks it's ready to be put up as a remaster/remake of her original video. It's a team project.

I was planning on doing something similair once, and i did email the other person, but he wasn't very interested in the idea (might be because of communication problems, he is french) so i dropped the idea, and well, once i have everything back to working order here, i might consider asking that person again about it, it was a year ago that i asked that, and am now a better editor and everything. But still, i sort of lost intrest in the entire thing half a year ago, but seeing this thread i might consider doing it again. Offcourse only if the person is keen on the idea now.
But just stealing someones idea (and the footage, which is worse) is not something i like, and if someone has done an idea i had, i normally would drop the whole idea, but this hasn't happened before (to my knowledge, and besides my ideas are usually somewhat unusual, offcourse there was one video i have that has the same song and anime, although the whole idea of the video is totally different, and mine is better
)
But if you want to remaster someones video, please first contact that person, and who knows, maybe they are planning on doing it themselves already.
And for everyone who want to do something like that, good luck, and please think about things before you do it, and get confirmation before doing them.

I dunno if anyone remembers the remake of Brad Demoss' Rhythm of the Heat video.
While the Remake by The Zero Saber is no longer avaliable for download as far as I know, it was a good remake, using DVD footage aside from the vhs looking quality of Brad's video (unless he himself has remastered the video since then), and was faithful up till the ending action portion of the video as Zero himself said he picked the action up a little bit more. While I dunno if he was granted Brad's blessing to do this or not, he did give all the due credit to Brad for the original concept.
I actually enjoy seeing remakes of older vids as long as they are done right. It's kinda like seeing a remake of a movie. It can be good or bad depending on the recreater's intentions.
I wonder if anyone would have the balls to remake or remaster "Believe" by K. Caldwell. I'd like to see done just to watch the riot of fanboys and girls forming a linch mob.

Itd be kinda funny if they then entered the remastered version into a convention (at least untill the mob killed them... then it would just be depressing...)Jebadia wrote:I wonder if anyone would have the balls to remake or remaster "Believe" by K. Anecdote: I was actually at AWA waiting for the elevator, when Demoss came careening through the hall in a drunken half-rage saying quite loudly "Did you hear? Some guy remade my Rhythym of Heat video! Can you believe that? Some little shit second guessing MY edits? I can't fucking believe it!"Jebadia wrote:I dunno if anyone remembers the remake of Brad Demoss' Rhythm of the Heat video.
