I must be lucky, I always make vids using songs/anime combos nobody uses much. What's more, I never make vids with ideas that people want to use anyway cause I'm goofy like dat...

I generally think I'm pretty original when it comes to song choice - my first vid used a song that only one other vid (not the same anime) had at the time, and the one I'm working on now hasn't been used before either.
However, when my ballet company used the song "My Immortal" back in the spring of 2003 (WAY before it was on the radio and everybody and their mother wanted to make a vid of it), I thought it would be perfect for the FFX storyline. However, I held off on making it because
1) I wanted to wait until I got a new computer that could rip the clips directly from the discs instead of using the "record to VHS and import" method I was using at the time, and
2) I wanted to include footage from FFX-2 as well, but hadn't played it yet and thus didn't want to spoil the FMVs for myself until I had completed the game.
Yet, in the interim, the song hit the Top 40 radio charts and almost everyone on this site made an AMV to it. About half those people made one using FFX and FFX-2. I thought about not doing the vid anymore, but every time I downloaded one of the FFX Immortal vids I'd watch it and go, "No! No! That's not how I would have done it! What were you thinking?!" because I had my own ideas in my head.
So I went and freakin did it anyway. And I'm glad. And I think its a good video. So, long story short - do what makes you happy. Who cares if its old.

So far so good.. for me, I haven't had anyone take my ideas, or make vids that I had planned to make.. and I pretty damn sure that it will never happen to me... I seem to have a very different taste in music anime and what not, so that kind of back up my thoughts that I will never find another vid like the ones I have made or plan to make..

The best ways to avoid any tension on the issue is to
A) not stay up to date on who's made what (not even caring may be better)
B) reassure yourself (if your a meadocre editor) that half of the overused combos are complete crap so you could easily do better.
C) Cosole yourself if a much more talented editior made the same vid you did (hey, you though along the same lines as someone you thought was your superior... that has to count for something!)

Not every video is going to be an earth shattering explosion of originality. If you are going to use popular stuff, with popular music don't be too surprised if someone else has it. That's why, if you care, you should use the super search to see if there is a match.
Half the time the videos that I make never quite match what I wanted in the first place, so if someone with more talent makes it I'm ok with that. The other half of the time, my videos have weird constraints on them that pretty much guarantee that it's not going to be matched (Celene Dion + Dragon BallZ for example), so I'm not worried either way.

Thanks. It's a bit small due to the restrictions, but the full pic is the cover art for my new Vid and also appears in it a few times.TeclmmlEd wrote: Roger that....also funny avatar you got thereLee is my man lol
