Windows and RealPlayer think my vid's "corrupt"

Post by ashiteruSweetSurrender » Thu Dec 30, 2004 6:22 pm

yep... i uploaded it... (took a million times) but when i checked the number of bytes...everything it was all good. well i decided to download it for myself after confirming it... now it only plays about 35 secs and then it goes(in a pop-up)
*any media player* cannot play the file. The file is either corrupt or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play.

joy...*bashes head on keyboard*

There's the clincher. Test the vid before you confirm, and you won't have a problem.

Anyway, I downloaded the vid and tried to get it to work. WMP 6.5 and Media Player Classic only get to about 1:27 before it freezes or resets, and even using AVISynth to frameserve the video failed to get it past that point (I even tried opening it in Windows Movie Maker to see if that could at least make it possible to export it out properly...that didn't even work.

The stats all seem to check out in dBPowerAmp's pop-up menu, but for some reason I couldn't seem to get a workaround for it. I'll try maybe seeing if TMPGEnc can handle it, but I severely doubt it, considering all the other things failing already.

I'll report back anything if I figure out what to do with it (short of suggesting you prepare an AVI of it and reupload).

On the "Edit My Videos" page you can submit a Delete video request. Once you do that a mod or admin will delete the local entry and you will then be able to re-upload it.

Nevermind. It appears the video has already been removed. You should be able to upload if you haven't already begun trying.

Actually, for ease of use, maybe it'd be better to convert it to MPEG-1.

Take your original, uncorrupted version.

Get TMPGEnc (available here: http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html)

Follow the wizard that shows up to encode an MPEG-1 from your WMV. You'll want it set on plain NTSC, since I remember the video was 30 frames per second (I think that's the default, anyway). You won't need to reset anything, although at the second screen (where you select the file you want to convert), you'll have to tell it to look at 'All files' in the dialog box's drop-down menu, since WMVs don't immediately show up. Then just keep hitting the 'Next' button until it changes to 'Finish'. Then hit that and wait for it to get done encoding the file.

There's a lot more that you could do with it, but that's probably the easiest option.

Next time, though, you should have your editing program export as AVI (if it can; most do, anyway). You should export in HuffYUV, Lagarith, or Uncompressed (if you have the space), and then follow the guides for XviD to ensure that it looks good and is small enough to distribute.

Sometimes it's just the way it's uploaded, and if anything interfered with it during the process. That's why the site allows you to download and check the file before you confirm it (the filename will be in blue on the Confirm screen - right-click and 'Save Target As'). If it didn't upload correctly, you can hit 'Cancel Upload' or whatever the button says, and try again. If everything checks out, you can hit 'Confirm' and it'll become available for all the Org to see.
