5.1 Encode for an AMV
Alright, I just bought a deluxe editon "SACD" (Super Audio CD) that seems to be encoded in 5.1 channels. I was just wondering if there was any way to preserve the 5.1 audio and keep it that way for my final encode. Or should I just convert it to stereo sound. I think having a 5.1 amv would really boost my audio score =).
So ya, if anyone can help me I would be really thankfull.

I've never tried taking only the audio from a DVD/DVD-Audio/SACD, but I'm fairly sure if it is in AC3, you could rip that, convert to wave to edit (or if an editor supports playing AC3 direct), then slap the AC3 track back onto the video in an avi or mkv. I've downloaded some anime subs with 5.1 AC3 audio in an avi container. I had to use an AC3 decoder to decode the stream. I downloaded AC3Filter and after some tweaking, I watched my anime in 5.1 surround sound! Its a cool idea, but most viewers don't have 5.1 systems or know about what they need to watch/listen to digital video. But I say go for it! Someone needs to try it and report back their findings. Viva the surround sound amv revolution
As for mp3 supporting multiple channels, the creators of mp3 are working on it. I don't expect it to be implemented anytime soon if ever. Heres some links:

Download mp3 surround beta codec - Supported OS's: Windows 2000 and XP, Mac OSX
I'm yet to download the beta since I don't have any good surround sources to tryout, also I have no idea how to get a 6 channel wav file to be able to encode into mp3 surround. But once again, if you really want to, I'm not stopping you. If you want, I'll beta test anything you try!

I hate to double post, but I thought I'd link to existing surround sound discussions on the forum. I forgot to do it last post

Well, the reason I really want to do this is for the people with 5.1 connected to their comp. I personally have just 2 speakers and everything sounds fine, so people with 2 won't have any problems playing back the audio, but I really wanna give those 5.1ers what they payed for =).
Now, I haven't tried it, but I don't believe you can rip to AC3 from this Super Audio CD. It works just like a normal CD, it uses .CDA sound etc. but is encoded in 5.1. So I can use any program that rips CD sound as long as it supports 5.1. Well, I'll try some stuff out, I'm sure I can just make it stereo for now, and when technology comes out thats more accesible for a 5.1 mix, I can remaster my audio. But if anyone else can still reccommend something, I'd love to preserve the 5.1ness.

I've got some info to report. I made the excuse to rip a Platinum Eva episode to test out 5.1 audio for amvs and to take a look at the video quality, but thats not important right now, just the audio. The Platinum episodes are encoded in 5.1 ac3 files. After demuxing the ac3 file and separating them into 6 wav files, using BeSweet. I setup Vegas 5 to input the .vob directly (no sound) and add the 6 wav files (with 5.1 surround selected in the project settings), with one set to the LFE (low frequency channel). I panned the correct channels to their correct locations in a 5 channel setup. I was pleasantly surprised when "A Cruel Angel's Thesis" started playing in surround sound. I started to turn on and off channels throughout the intro and discovered parts of the music I never realized were there. The center channel was almost completely the main singer's voice. I scrolled throughout the episode and heard everything just fine and correctly.
So, I successfully decoded a 5.1 channel ac3 file into a playable format (using Vegas at least). However, exporting it into a format most users can play still is the problem. I have the choice of 5.1 wmv/wma, 5.1 ogg, 5.1 rm, direct ac3, and other (I'm sure there are others). I'll report back on how my attempts at output formats go.

uh
SACD is not PCM. it is not -encoded- in any format you can use in digital.
in order to keep the 5.1 or however many channels there are, you must record it on a 5.1 recording device analog style, then build your own 5.1 stream.
There is no way to rip an SACD.
