I think you need to keep in mind that overconfidence and lack of confidence are equally bad.

I am a poor technical editor. Do not try to tell me otherwise, as any in-depth look at my videos will reveal nothing but very simple, effort-saving approaches without any flashy editing. I also recognize that some videos that I would like to do are out of my technical reach, and that there are far, far more competent and capable editors all around me.

On the other hand, I don't think my videos suck, and I have been very happy with all of them. And given my goals, I think I generally succeeded as an editor.

But neither am I shit nor the shit. I just learned to recognize my limits in editing and openly admit them to others (who often interpret my statements of the sort as self-depreciatory)

Me, too, even the really awful ones. ;p I like them because they're mine.

Some still suck (compared to other videos) and I know enough to say it flat out (for the ones I can't get deleted). I like them, but I wouldn't try to trick anyone into downloading them with false impressions. When I say a video sucks, it's always in comparison to something I think is better - my own work as often as not.

An example would be "This video sucks. As soon as I can think of an excuse to get it deleted, it'll be gone. Watch this instead - it's much better. ^.~"

It's not self-depreciatory, it's being critical of my own efforts. But I'm not new anymore. If I'd said it when I first started it would have been:

"This video sucks...

helphelphelphelp"

Then again, I like the sketch I did of my hand in third grade - and WOW does it suck.

Still mine, still like it.

PetitLove - Since you were "lucky enough to know someone who does know a lot about AMVs" you probably wouldn't really understand what it's like when all the people you show your vid to tell you it's the bomb - only to have you look around here and realize it sucks and now you have no idea why because all your friends are as blind to the flaws as you are.

We'll see when I release it? Your pretty bitter by the way... I get enough noob bashers as it is tagging slowly behind me sucking my mind so very slowly. But no need to insult my friends? And to think i was just going to say that your lastest video was good. It still remains good but man, if I was like you so very bitter and cold, the first things that would come out of my mouth would be your video sucks. Of course thats not the case, oh and to think you pulled that all off in WMM2 thats really interesting.

Either way i stand by what i said and I understand what your saying, but unlike you i will not go to personal things and stick to this topic.

Remember in your other post where you quoted me and highlighted a sentence - claiming I was flaming you when I made that sentence? Read the parenthesis that came before the sentence you highlighted - that's where you stand on the subject - you're one of the lucky people who have friends to help them. I'm not flaming you for having friends, and I'm not bitter that you have friends. I'm saying that because you are one of the lucky ones, you are not one of the unlucky ones about whom I was speaking.

In other words, I wasn't talking about you - I was decribing the situation for the people this topic is about - so you would know where they come from since you're not one of them.

As for newb bashing, I was defending these people by doing my best to put myself in their place and explain where they are coming from.

I am bitter now, though. Sucks when I go from being a helper to a snobby goddess to a bitter old newb-basher. o.O

Anyways I'm sorry, in all likelyhood I just thought that when i made the first simple statement of

I either download it to see what went wrong or what could be done, but I still do not understand why people would say that the video sucks and not try to make it better before uploading it OR leave it until they believe they can make it better.

That seemed very eminent that it came after my post and i figured it directly related to what I just wrote, which it does. But it was only my opinion and you didn't have to go and splice it down bit by bit and disagree, thats what i thought. Anyways I try to help people as well, I havent given a really harsh review nor do i plan to i just list things to develop on and in a sense we both have ideas that contrast, but both end up going down the same road, AMV making.

I hope i havent inflicted the thought that i was insulting "these people" im assuming the people that you stated are amateurs and beginners, I myself am one. Lol i dont get how that works... But i guess i figured everyone was just a basher on this forum, or close to everyone

Anyways i can agree with your Practice Makes Perfect scheme that you believe in alot, I've read your profile shortly after and downloaded the first and the last video and i can see that development happens, which i knew, but i was also assuming that alot of people did beta testing of videos etc... even to people they didn't know completely.

I took you literally when you said you didn't understand why people would do that - I like to talk (can you tell?) so I jumped in to explain why people would do that - so you'd know why they might do that. It's my obsession, answering any question I can think of an answer for. ^_^;

No, no, I didn't think you were insulting them - I took you literally when you said you didn't understand them. Like you said, few amv-makers go through the same steps, so I was describing the 'path' they were coming from to get to the same place you're going.

Nah, there are still quite a few good-natured people around. They just don't post much these days.

Heh, I really need to update that profile. ^_^; It stands as my excuse to make so many vids. And no, I had no way of beta-testing my vids when I started, and my friends (real life) barely watched anime, let alone amvs. It took me months before a few people finally left some constructive reviews I could use to improve my editing - that's why I wrote so many reviews myself. For a lot of the people who upload videos here, reviews are their main source of help with the general editing. Only a fraction of the people who post vids actually visit the forum.

Imagine that for a second. Some 65 vids to get me comfortable with WMM. How many would it take before I got the hang of Premiere? Terrifying thought, isn't it.
