randomizing "preview" and "submit" butto

Post by jbone » Sun Nov 28, 2004 12:14 am

Would it be possible to randomize the order of the "preview" and the "submit" buttons? (e.g., sometimes preview is on left and submit is on right, other times, submit is on left and preview is on right)

Winzip uses such "button randomization" to force people to think before hitting either button. I think, if such randomization could be implemented on this forum, it'd help to "wake people up," as it were, and think about hitting the "preview" button before submitting posts.

But that would make it a lot more complicated for people like myself - who always hit the left button first. :?

It's slow enough previewing each post (due to my connection, I'm sure) - having to stop and look to make sure the left button is the one I want would just play havoc on my system of automatic previewing.

That would also have a similar effect on me, except in reverse.

I would be previewing my posts for a change once in a while! :o

Hmmm.... I'd just find that irritating.

People who normally Preview now have a 50% chance of not reviewing ---> Bad
People who normally do not Preview have a 50% chance of reviewing ---> Good
People who will not review their posts regardless of being in Preview page---> possibility of 90%+

Making up numbers is fun, but really, just because people are forced to look at the preview screen every so often does not mean they will actually look through their posts. The chance of them previewing their post may have gone up, but I don't particularly have much faith in the Org crowd in having that be a big improvement.

jbone, when are you going to realize that humanity isn't worth your efforts?

It would really only be good for those few who have forgotten the preview button. The people that ignore it currently will still ignore it even if they're forced to see it.

if someone accidentaly hits the preview button when they ment to hit the submit button, they'l most likely just hit back and make sure they hit the submit button this time. If someone accidentaly hits the submit button when they meant to hit the preview button, then they're screwd.

In that case, you might want to look here:

Anyway, I'm curious as to what exactly does the suggestion want to occur with the MOD. Why randomize the PReview button? If the answer is so people could check over their spelling than I suggestion SpellingCow.

If it has to do with anythign else than I would suggest these changes instead:

Change the Posting Template so you'll only have the Preview Option available first. To post the person must preview. A person cannot post until they have spent at least 30+secs in the Preview page. This could be worked into the "anti-flood" rules.

I love this idea! ^_^

If there is *just* the preview button, that would work great for those who've made it a habbit to preview. And after that, you could have the two buttons (same place they are now) so people can preview again or post.
