I want more OP's. I want a bug fix

Post by bum » Fri Nov 05, 2004 11:33 am

Their's a serios bug in the oppinions form where sometimes op's arent posted. This is a serios pain in the ass, esspecialy after writing a particularly long op and then not having it being recognised when you post it. Sometimes I simple give up and refuse to write the op again, though now i just save op into notepad before posting it. This is a serios problem, esspecialy considering little op's most people actualy do get. If a fix cant be made quickly at least warn people of the problem and advise them to save the op in a text file before attempting to post it.

Is it timing out or making you log in again when you try to submit the opinion? If so, then it's because you took too long writing it and the browser timed out (if you're using IE). I hear that's not an issue with things like Opera or Firefox.

Or is this a new bug with an error message and everything? Scary thought. o.o

Nope, it's never been for me.

People with this problem could just write up their ops in a word processing prog and then just copy/paste. No, you shouldn't have to, but it works and it's hardly a hassle.

That's what I do. ;p You get the spell-check option, and much bigger text so you can actually reread what you wrote without having to edit the opinion.

/the word-count option is nice, too. >.>

I've had issues posting opinions in the past too. A screen would pop up after I submit, saying some errors in the php code or something. Is that the same error you are talking about bum?

I had issues where the org acts like it accepted my op except if you go and look it really just discarded it. I was using Firefox at the time so you can discard the 'it's IE' theory. The problem suddenly just went away on it's own, although I pointed it out to the admins so maybe they did a fix and never announced it.

It is a logging out problem, we are aware of it, there are plans to fix it... we're just not sure when.

If you like I can add a note on the page telling folks to save the op before submitting in case you are logged out.

With me its like nothing's happened. I write up the op, click done when I'm finished and then it just goes to the ops given page (or whatever other page) and acts like nothings happened. My op smiply dissapears, like i never wrote it in the first place.

I have had this problem too, but not very often. I do write fairly long ops, but I am not entirely sure that size is an issue. As more often than not it has happened to my smaller opinions. (thats prolly just a couincidence.) Wouldn't it be possible to set the page to save the op in cookies before it gets posted? As I have had posting trouble on other sites where it apparently did that. (I posted, got an error went back to previous page, text was still there for me to post again, without error.)

I could be a good work around no?
