Question about Gundam SEED on CN.

Post by angelx03 » Sun Sep 19, 2004 12:55 am

Ok, I saw a preview of Gundam SEED tonight (I think it was a preview of episode 24) where Cagali and Athrun are about to shoot each other. Is it just me, or did I see them using LASER guns? :?

I think I saw the same scene, but I didn't catch that. (I don't watch that show, it was just on the tv and I glanced over for a second)

You could be right though. It strikes me as the kind of show to do that.

The thing is that those "laser" guns looks edited in order to cover up the fact they're REAL guns. I thought the whole point of CN's Toonami is to provide a transition from preteen programming to something a bit more mature. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the earlier episodes Gundam SEED involve someone using a real gun?

They're not lasers, the scene is question is part of the intro. Callagi and Athrun have never met each other and to avoid major spoilers, I won't say anything else.

Edited Toonami

I'm no expert on Gundam Seed, But I do notice CN toonami messing with the original anime from time to time. Maybe, it's done so things are more understandable to child consumers. Kids spend big bucks on their hobbies. So bare that in mind. But don't tell the kids that.

Alright. I will say a couple of edits that are slightly noticable. Murrue Ramius, captain of the Archangel, is often cut. As it was put on the GameFAQs.com Gundam Board,

Claiming Murrue is like claiming fanservice itself. I salute you.
So yeah, she's cut. Not to mention the shower/bathroom scene was cut too.

Laser hand guns don't exist in the Gundam world, so it must be an edit. Either that or beam weapons were micronized over night.
Don't be surprised by what gets edited. When they changed "poker" to "go fish" in Outlaw Star they officially baffled me. I don't bother to question what gets edited, I just pick out edits.

Actually, memory serves Outlaw Star was also especially infamous for the 'Let's replace real guns with lasers' touch
