what is the most important part of an AMV?

Post by Oh My » Fri Sep 17, 2004 9:49 pm

do you think it's lipsync, does it have to follow the words, or does it have to keep up with the music?

Personaly, I really like it when it follows the words really well, my guy on the other hand hates it when it follows the words "too much" and prefers when it follows the music

Personally looking to be entertained.

Anything applies to entertainment of course:
Stupid funny randomness.
Action.
Existentialism.
Makes me think.
Makes my brain get stupid.
Teaches.
Etc.
To me watching AMV is like going to the movies.
Want it to be worth watching.
That's about it.

Relative question there. Personally the most important things to me in an AMV are flow and message.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

The most important part of an AMV is a tie between the song and the footage. Probably leaning a bit more towards footage than song but they're both pretty important.

The beginning. Then the end. Then the middle.

More broadly... I like mood sync quite a bit, that's probably my favorite aspect of AMVing. That's not to say it's something I like exclusively and in isolation, but when it's well-done, I like it quite a bit.

Now, firstly, unlike beat/effect sync, noone can really define for sure what 'mood sync' is, and that's one fascinating thing about it. That's because it's pretty much 99% context, and catching that context right is no easy task. It's easy to get a bass drum to match up to a random (or, ok, even a specific) explosion, but it's quite a bit trickier to catch the 'mood' of a music piece and translate it into a meaningful visual context. There's no set formula for how to do that, and there's a lot of experimentation to be done in mood sync - a lot of new ground which hasn't been covered.

As much as mood sync itself, I love mood contrasts being pulled off well in a video.

But of course, no self-respecting video editor should go with just that alone, and obviously a video is more than just one aspect of it. Still, there's an aspect I really like for ya
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Yes, if the footage and the song don't go together, then you have to MAKE them go together, which either works, or doesn't....:)
