About "Right Now Someone Is Reading This Title"

I gave an opinion on RNSIRTT and I was reading the other public ops, and some of them mentioned "the original video" and how people who haven`t seen it might not like the AMV. I loved it and I don`t even know what the original video is. Is it the videoclip for te song or something? And how is it?

well, put it this way. if you've seen an anime used in an amv or heard the song, then your gona enjoy it more than f you hadn't seen the anime or not haerd the song.

Anyway, by 'the original', I believe they mean Van Halen's original video to 'Right Now'.

As Kalium answered, the Van Halen video "Right Now' is the video Tim parodied. Try and find a copy (I do not have one). If you do, you'll realize just how funny this video is (or rather funnier) b/c Tim uses very similar lines used in the real video and is in fact parodying it. It's a fairly well-known "real music-video."

For example these lines are both in the real video and the AMV, Tim just used humorous scenes;
-Right Now there is a madman walking the streets of your neighborhood.
-Right Now Pigs are becoming Lunch.
-Right Now She is moving on with her life.
...and so on.

Yes...I hadn't seen it, so I hunted down a copy on the net and watched it...and the video is even better if you've seen the real one...also, something to do when you're extremely bored is play them together window by window...its neat. =)

Yup, I mean Tim's video is funny by itself, but with the knowledge of the original, you appreciate it that much more . It's probably the main reason it's my favorite comedy/parody video .

Not to derail this thread, but do mind giving your reasoning behind that?

Many songs are the best the first time you hear them and slowly get old (unless it's a true masterpeice, in which case it gets better.) As for the anime, I can see your point if it is a romance AMV and you need to know background info, but some of my favorite AMV's are taken out of context of the series, or even just emphasize a serious side of a comedy AMV. For example a dark depressing FLCL video might be even better if you were not aware of the funny parts of the series.

We could keep it on topic - just use the amv as context. I dont' know if bum meant this, but for this vid there were a number of scenes that were more funny because I've seen or heard of the anime. For instance, there's a scene with Kaoru and Kenshin that just wouldn't be anything but cute (maybe - it's not that funny by itself) if you didn't know anything about Rurouni Kenshin. It's knowing Kaoru's character (and their relationship boundaries) that makes the line so funny.

Other lines in this vid move very quickly, and I noted the ones matched to anime I knew were easier to read - the ones with unfamiliar scenes seemed to go quicker. It's because I was trying to get the 'context' of those lines, so I couldn't read and 'see for the first time' as well as I could with the anime scenes I was familiar with.

Think of other 'contexts' - the cosplayers and the big anime eye comments - anyone who hasn't 'seen' that part of anime won't get the joke. Most general anime fans will recognize it, but there's still the fact that if you're not "in the target audience" you won't get as much out of it. Another example - there's a comment about wishing you had more anime so you'd recognize the scenes. I recognized most of them, so that didn't seem very funny/interesting/relevant to me - it would have been great and funny as heck if I'd been in the target audience (this is an opposite example - for those who are unfamiliar rather than those who are familiar). So it works both ways.

There's a perfect example of this in Right Now. There's a scene that goes 'Right now Ryoga is on his 23rd world tour' (or something like that) with footage of Ryouga from Ranma 1/2. The humor of that line pretty much flat out requires knowing who Ryouga is and the running joke about his direction sense. If you don't know the anime the scene has no trace of humor at all.

For humor AMVs like this the funny thing is that they're taken out of context, which requires that you know enough about the series to know it's taken out of context.
