Western Digital 10K RPM Raptors

Post by keiohki » Tue Sep 14, 2004 2:47 am

I've been thinking about purchasing these drives for a while now. It will mostlikely be a two drive setup in RAID0. This two drives will be basically used for uncompressed video capturing, and capturing PC game footage via fraps. Is the extra cost for the 10K rpm worth it?

I personally would not buy a 10k rpm hdd at this moment in time, most i have seen are around 30-50G in size... (probably more in other countries) and they cost as much as a 200G 7200 rpm hdd.

With WD i just brought my first one about a week ago and had my first XP blue screen and my first mbr failure  not a good first impression.
I got it working now though no biggie i guess.

Back on topic yeah id probably wait a few months - to 6 months get a nice 100G 10k hdd. *drools*

The 10'000 rpm drives would be faster for seek times but for large files throughput wouldn't be any faster. For such large files I would use a 200gb or larger single drive. Serial ata would have better throughput if your MoBo is equipped for it. Otherwise check out the price of the 200gb drive on this page. http://www.tigerdirect.com/indexus.asp? ... E=WEM753CT
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?
