Um he dies of consumption known now as Tuberculosis. It was quite common back then.

i dont know, i think he died of a combination of Tuberculosis and Leprosy, both were common back then
he could have gotten TB from from the imperial general and leprosy is an easily contractable disease

Whoa whoa...coughing blood? Blood spots on the body? Sounds like Korean Hemorraghic Fever to me. We had to watch training videos on it during my tour in Korea. It rarely progresses to terminal level, but when it does, that's it's exact effects. Think a very slow form of the Ebola virus that usually doesn't kill you. It's transmitted through rat urine (inhaling the dried urine dust), rat feces, or rat bites. It has to go through a rat though (kinda like how West Nile encephalitis needs a bird in the cycle to affect people), so how did Kaoru get it....hrm.
