Bes Anime with the Worst Endings

Post by Yukina_Raven » Fri Aug 13, 2004 12:45 pm

Now, when I think of bad endings, I take it two ways.

1) Endings that really, really sucked and killed the anime.

or

2) Endings that were so good, and yet so freakin' sad/confusing/unbelieveable, etc.

Choose some anime for one or both. Here's three I came up with that fit underneath #2...
Spoiler wrote: Cowboy Bebop -- Of all the ways to end a kick-ass series... It was a very beautiful ending, however, but too darn sad! Then again, while watching Cowboy Bebop, you kinda expect its the kind of series to kill off a main character. And I always thought Spike had a death wish. But still...

Wolf's Rain -- The words "So what was the point of their journey?" come to mind after seeing this ending. And I'm focusing on episodes 27-30 as the ending, not episode 26. Everyone died?! That's...sad. Kiba, Toboe, Tsume, Hige, Blue, Cher, Hubb, Quent and Cheza. They all died! And Darcia killed almost all of them, too. This ending really shocked me to a near death state. I never expected a happy ending, but I didn't expect them all to die!

Witch Hunter Robin -- WHY!?!?!

1) Arjuna - That was kind of thrown together and way over the top
2) NGE - just wonderful, even though the "visual" strength missed

I kind of wish there was a bit more romance at the end of Fruits Basket.

A few more dissapointing endings:

- Chrono Crusade (SO sad!)
- Marmalade Boy (WAY too chiche)
- Rurouni Kenshin (still not enough romance)
- Escaflowne (Not one kiss)

I didn't really care for the endings to :
Video Girl Ai
I My Me ! Strawberry Eggs
Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar
Green Green
Voices of a Distant Star
Saber Marionette J to X
Hand Maid May, and
If I See You In My Dreams

There's different reasons for each, naturally, but for the most part it's because they seemed unsatisfying in some way. A few were a little too bittersweet for my tastes also.

The ending for Konomini was very dissappointing.
I REALLY expected death and/or destruction; not some umbelievably rushed relationship between Takeru and Hikari.

Category one: OMG KARE KANO. This demonstrates the value of waiting until the manga's finished (or animating a second season, which unfortunately isn't likely to happen).

Category two: FLCL. Not only is it quite powerful, but I found myself wishing there was more (the first time I saw it).

Some endings that have bugged me:

Nadesico. It wasen't bad per se, but it just felt so out of place with the series. (Talking about Prince of Darkness movie.)

Arc the Lad. I would've been satisfied with the ending if I hadn't played the games, but since I did I noticed how they took away the tragedy and sacrifice to make it an everybodies completly okay la la la la la happy ending.

Rahxephon: I know what happend.. but.. "WTF just happened????" it's like overcooking something going through all of the blood sweat and tears to go through with it and then suddenly... fixing it by some tuning...

(1) The entire DBGT series. A horrible way to end the Dragonball franchise. Some of the blame goes to the end of DBZ, which did nothing to end the franchise.

(2) Cowboy Bebop. The perfect ending.

(Notable Mention) Tenchi Muyo!(OAV) for apparently not ending with the thrid season. Though I'm reserving final judgement until I see that for myself.
