And Castor Troy are you kidding me?
The latin languages take that cake, along with the old asian ones like Chinese and Indian or Hindu or Punjabi.

ya know, when i first came to australia i could read/write and speak arabic and french fluently. within two years i completely forgot how to write in french and arabic. i forgot how to speak french, and couldnt speak arabic as fluently. english is about the simplest language ever created.Castor Troy wrote:English is probably among the top 3, if not the top hardest languages to learn.bum wrote:not to mention that english is probaly the easiest language to learn.

Um, let me reiterate:
There's no such thing as easiest or hardest language to learn. It very much depends on the person, and especially what they're starting off with (as in, what they already know). English grammar, on the whole, is fairly straightforward. No complex cases to worry about, a pretty well static word order to boot - smooth sailing... NOT - then you get to the hellishly complex vowel system, numerous exceptions to rules and odd logic (why don't we say 'gooses' or 'foots'?) - it all depends on how well you're prepared to deal with those things. The vowel system alone is enough to guarantee trouble, especially for those who grew up speaking languages with simple, or just drastically different, vowel systems.
Myself, I found english easy to learn (*gasp!* Yes, it's actually not my first language). But I'm also finding Japanese easy to learn - writing system aside, probably even easier than English. Does that mean that my own experience validates a general conclusion that Japanese is, in fact, the easiest language to learn? (try telling that to 90% of people in my Japanese class
)

God, please tell me something about Memories now.
I seriously want to buy it when I get some money, although I don't know much about it beyond Magnetic Rose.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

If you havent seen magnetic rose it's sort of a computerized ghost story, strange and interesting.
Stink bomb is quite humorous, poor guy kills everyone he comes near, can the millitary atop him befor he reaches Tokyo? They throw eveything at him, is he unstoppable?
Cannon Fodder I haven't watched yet. The pictures in the flyer look like a different type of animation, moe like you would see i Heavy Metal magazine.
As for subbed vs dubbed, I prefer a good dub so I can watch the action and not spend my whole time reading. Memories doesn't have an english dub, and the US version only has japanese language with dubs.
Overall I would recomend this dvd for your collection, it was quite enjoyable.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

And what they WANT to know. I pretty much flunked Spanish in high school because I just absolutely despised the language because of all the illegal immigrants. It was almost like we were learning it for their benefit, which just made absolutely no sense at all and REALLY kinda irked me.Otohiko wrote:Um, let me reiterate:

Japanese on the other hand I REALLY want to learn and I find I'm picking it up fairly easily (I have a lil trouble with Kanji though, a lot to memorize).
Watch Pie Row's "Holy Crap".God, please tell me something about Memories now.

That's also true. Sometimes it also comes down to what you (for practical purposes) have to learn - thus so many of the Mandarin-speaking students here who have trouble getting into it too well because they only have to use it in class; for all else, they use their own language because there's always enough people around speaking it (thus my doubting English=widest-spoken language). Not that I have anything against that, but I've clearly seen how that sometimes works against them in terms of school performance.
I'm studying to be an ESL teacher, myself (at least for a bit after I finish my B.A.)

Back to memories...
I know enough about Magnetic Rose thanks to repeated re-viewing of early versions of Pen-Pen's still-unreleased video, and now I think I get 'Stink Bomb's point, too. Cannon Fodder is the only 'mystery' one right now - but eh, 2/3 is enough for me.
I've also seen it for rent in a couple of video stores, so I might want to check it out that way. Granted, it sounds like a solid buy already though.

It is but could you believe I forgot what cannon fodder is about?
I remember it has to do with a town that has cannons everywhere and everyday at 12 o'clock (i think) they fire them agains the nearest town.
Think the main reason of the short is that there's no reason for the war...
if one could call it that.
But the other two are more than worth it as it has been stated before.

Cannon Fodder is really just a "slice of life" piece. I don't think there's a real meaning behind it other than "What would life be like if everything was based around cannons?"Kajino Rei wrote:@ Otohiko

I just finished Cannon Fodder. It seems to be a morality play, a society that has become completely militaristic, everything revolves around the "war" effort. A bit of a poke at our former arms race and perhaps at Japan's history of warlords. A dark and interesting peice.Harlock7876 wrote:Cannon Fodder is really just a "slice of life" piece.
