There have been alot of good points made here thus far. My stance boils down to:

I would love to see my AMV's playing in a store, or on TV. I would hate to see my AMV's used to advertize something I disapprove of, and beleive me there's alot that falls into this category. I would hate to be, or see anyone else for that matter, sued by the RIAA. I would love to see that lawsuit taken to the supreme court where the DMCA would be ripped to pieces for being unconstitutional.

And thats just my two cents, again.

The obvious and easy solution to everything, and I do mean everything, would be to move the servers to Uzbekistan.

Yeah, even global warming and the energy crisis.

Reading this thread has made me tired. I'll do a simple reply to everything I think is worth my time.

It would be good etiquette to ask the creators first. If someone has a problem with it(and was not asked), just explain it(nicely). Doubt they'll argue much.

If they ever showed one of *my* AMVs, I would be freakin thrilled, whether they asked first or not.

If they used it to advertise something, *then* I would rather they ask me first. If they didn't ask and it happened to be something I really don't agree with(actually not much out there worth my time arguing over), would just ask them nicely to stop or use it for something else.

The anime companies aren't ever going to bother the AMV community, cause they'd just hurt themselves, and most of them seem to have enough intelligence to realize that.

I probably would have bought a total of 0 CDs the last year without AMVs. Instead I've gotten 3 or 4 of them. RIAA would also just hurt themselves, but don't seem to have the intelligence to realize that. Plus they do seem awful damn bored, sometimes. Not much we can do about anything until when(if) the RIAA attacks, so no point in worrying aside from occasional debates or info that are actually useful.

If the RIAA did go after the org and/or AMV makers, they probably would end up screwed over in the end, possibly with the DMCA ripped apart, indeed(more likely it would trigger or encourage a chain of events leading to that result, rather than the AMV community killing it). Anyway, don't mess with the otaku.

Ok, that was fun. I go do something else now.

I don't understand why it bugs people if they used it to advertise and increase sales.

I mean...isn't that a good thing? More sales = more anime...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a lot of people on this site use AMV's as a way to promote sales for certain anime series. Seems very contradicting when an actual store wants to increase sales to HELP THE ANIME COMMUNITY AND THEMSELVES and you all get bent out of shape about it.

Increased sales only helps keep anime vendors in business so we can GET the anime we want. If sales increased, we would find what we want a lot quicker. More specials would come up if sales were better.

Seems fucking retarded to get pissed off for something like this. Hell, not like we asked the ORIGINAL creators of the anime to chop up their art and in most cases, fuck it up.

All in all...the AMV community is filled with a bunch of fucking idiots. Can't believe I ever bothered with you dumbfucks.

You answered your own question.

When I vid stuff, I do it because I think doing [insert operation here] would be fun. In many cases it turns the anime into something that it wasn't supposed to be in the first place.

If I'm going to <strike>whore</strike> advertise an anime, then I'll do that. I'd rather not have something which is completely unrepresentative of an anime be used as a representative of said anime.

Oh, and then there's the volitional aspect: I just don't want my vids to be shown like that.

Contumely. That's the way to end an argument. Congratulations, I'm swayed.
