That was certainly interesting.SQ and I over AIM wrote:Brigrel Q: Hello Are you there?
K4lium: yes
Brigrel Q: It's SQ
K4lium: hey
Brigrel Q: You wanted the full story of the unfinished TV played AMV?
K4lium: yes
K4lium: it made me curious
Brigrel Q: Do I get an interview, too =p
Brigrel Q: ?^
K4lium: I'm no journalist
Brigrel Q: lol I kid.
Brigrel Q: Okay
Brigrel Q: Last year, I go to a second school for my Video Productions class, where they use Casablanca AVIOs to edit(independent boxes hooked to monitors and VCRs, DVD Players, DV Players, etc)
K4lium: all in one
Brigrel Q: Eh?
K4lium: all the inputs hooked together
K4lium: everything you could need
Brigrel Q: I had begun making a music video to All American Rejects' "Swing Swing"(School got the demo CD before it got famous) to Sonic the hedgehog the movie
Brigrel Q: Well, at that point(Oh no, this was TWO years a go! Shitty memory, sorry) I hadn't really figured out how to work the box editor, and I quickly found out that for some reason, you had to have video the same length or longer to have an independent music timeline
K4lium: so you shove a placeholder in there
Brigrel Q: (Had no idea of the create sample scene fro audio where you could just insert video into it)
Brigrel Q: Yes. That's exactly what I did.
Brigrel Q: I made clips as placeholders and threw them in there
Brigrel Q: Then put the music on. Class ended, I went home.
Brigrel Q: While I was gone, some "genius" thought the AMV was the best thing he ever saw, dubbed it to a tape, shoved it on the news during the credits.
Brigrel Q: Didn't give me credit(not that I wanted it for that POS), deformed the aspect ratio, among other horrendous things
K4lium: so did you see it yourself or did someone else tell you?
Brigrel Q: I saw it
Brigrel Q: My teacher was ecstatic. He showed it to me
Brigrel Q: I was like.. WTF
Brigrel Q: I got so pissed
Brigrel Q: He uses my music videos from AVIO as teaching tools now(The finished ones) but atleast he ASKED for those.
Brigrel Q: He said he didn't even do the sonic thing, someone was watching and was like, "Hey, let's put this on the news" fucking ignorant.... -shakes fist-
K4lium: did they even apologize?
Brigrel Q: Anyway, when I finally DID finish the AMV about a few weeks later, they put that one up, but stretched the HELL out of! (Did one of those push to the side so half screen is video half screen is credits) I was a bit happier, but they still didn't give me credit.
Brigrel Q: No they never did
Brigrel Q: The regular school I go to stopped that program, so now I'm trying to get into a college after-school program -sigh-
K4lium: that has to be two of the worst things you can do to a video/creator
Brigrel Q: Yeah.
Brigrel Q: But atleast my credits are on teaching tools now
Brigrel Q: So I guess that almost makes up for it
K4lium: have you been bombarded with questions yet?
Brigrel Q: About?
K4lium: generic questions prompted by the use of your work as teaching material
Brigrel Q: Haha, no.
Brigrel Q: The teacher wants me to visit and maybe guest-speak but he doesn't want me to skip school to do that so it's kind of a dilemma
Brigrel Q: It's not like he has my phone number or address to contact me
Brigrel Q: He DOES however give out homework involving my AMV profile 0_0
K4lium: what for, asking people to track it down?
Brigrel Q: That's kind of where I got most of my fanbase. =\
K4lium: or asking them to dissect your vids?
Brigrel Q: When he does the music video, um.. What's it called... Er. Well, the part of the year when he teaches how ot edit music videos, he says "Watch these videos, they're examples of good editing"
K4lium: ah, I see
Brigrel Q: I tried to direct, once. Made a commercial. It sucked sooooo bad. I was sooo embarrassed, but he told me to dub it to a tape, and now he uses that as an example of a BAD commercial >_<
K4lium: I'm sorry, but that's just too funny
Brigrel Q: Shut up. >_<
K4lium: eh, good editors do bad things often enough
Brigrel Q: I guess that was the immitate YCSTR syndrome coming through, because it was a Matrix Trailer
Brigrel Q: but it was with real people
Brigrel Q: And I was Trinity
Brigrel Q: Oh god. >_<
Brigrel Q: It's like.. Prime blackmail material
K4lium: destroy it, and all copies thereof
Brigrel Q: I can't
Brigrel Q: My teacher has it
Brigrel Q: It's too bad I'm only in highschool
K4lium: hm......... that does complicate things somewhat
Brigrel Q: Atleast I have a fanatic fan who's a teacher who can recommend me for... stuff. o.o
K4lium: there are some schools that will offer scholarships for art skills
K4lium: and I think that would wualify
K4lium: *q
Brigrel Q: You know the interviews section of the org?
K4lium: yeah
Brigrel Q: I always wanted an interview there, or somewhere, because even though I'm not famous, or old, I've had some hell of a lot of amazing/wierd expierences with AMVing that would be so interesting to tell
Brigrel Q: But I never say anything because it sounds like I'm full of myself. >>
Brigrel Q: <<
K4lium: a certain amount of what could be seen as arrogance is justified by skill and talent
Brigrel Q: rofl
Brigrel Q: Right.
Brigrel Q: You can post the explanation of the video stealing news things if you want
K4lium: nah, I'll leave that to you. It's your story.
Brigrel Q: Your couriosity
Brigrel Q: curiosity^
K4lium: only extends to me
Brigrel Q: pah, go for it
K4lium: Fine, I'll drop it in that thread.
Brigrel Q: wewt! Promotion for myself!
Brigrel Q: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=21492
Brigrel Q: I made an entry for it, apparently, lol
Damn, that's just wrong.SQ wrote:I think I'd have to agree with Trythil, here (OMG!).
Having been in an expierence similiar to this, I have to say when I found out I was very, VERY mad.
But then again, my video was ripped from the editor when it wasn't even done yet and slapped on television. So I guess there's a difference.
Anyway, point being, if they didn't ask beforehand, if they didn't give me credit for editing it, and if they were using it to sell something I don't approve of, hell yes I'd totally be frustrated.
That's like using secretly-recorded (For your own purposes) video of your vagina, and then the advertising company stealing it and using your vagina for yest infection inserts.

Now that would be cool.x_rex30 wrote:Imagine if they got the rights to play that one song to any of the anime that's in there programing, now imagine if they had a larger list of songs they could put to anime if they wanted. Maybe then they could even possibly have a block of AMV's showing on Toonami.
I haven't bothered to read this whole thread, but that's okay, I doubt anyone has brought it up.TokyoU15 wrote:That's about the dumbest shit I've read all day. That's like saying we should get sued for altering copyrighted material and GIVING AWAY MUSIC for free on the internet. For some reason, part of me hopes that GameStop will be slapped with a lawsuit for public performance of unauthorized derivatives of copyrighted works.
What GameStop did is harmless. We're not fucking artists, we simply have nothing better to do.
Hey um...you know yer .sig? The part where it says "Perfect Trip"? You should put a white shadow behind that, it'd make it a lot easier to read...I'm just sayin...Joykiller wrote:pen-pen2002 wrote:List of demands.

I already said I was finished so why are you continuing it?
I love how you generalize that.Wheee_It's_Me! wrote:I haven't bothered to read this whole thread, but that's okay, I doubt anyone has brought it up.
What GameStop did was NOT harmless. In fact, to be perfectly blunt what they did was done to try and boost THEIR sales, ie infringing upon the actual copyright owners right to TRY and make money. It has nothing to do with us so much as it has to do with the fact that they're using AMVs to try and make more money which is a HUGE no-no.
Somehow I doubt ANYONE working at Circuit City could be THAT dumb. You know pirating data, making AMVs, shit like that, it's not such a big deal when it's done behind mostly closed doors, under the table, but when you start doing shit like that in a retail chain...yeah that's just lawsuit city waiting to happen. I would imagine that if that guys boss at Circuit City had known what he was doing, he probably would have been fired, just to save them the bad publicity.x_rex30 wrote: I love how you generalize that.I was told the guy just loves anime, and AMVs. He actually tried to convince his boss to play them, then eventually they did.
If I worked at a best buys, knowing me I'd want AMVs to play in the computer section, even if I wasn't working in that part of the store. It's not like the people at best buys, who play Trance MP3s, And AMVs on there computers are trying to boost sales....
It's because they like the damn things!!! I went to Circuit City a few months ago, and a playlist of trance was playing on one of theire computers. I wanted them so I asked one of the guys if I could burn them to CD, and he said go right ahead without making any sort of an attempt to sell me something. So I popped out a CD, Burned the songs, then left the store. Hmmm, lets see..... that is about 50+ songs added to my playlist.
