Love Hina English?

I heard tones of bad stuff about love hina being in English. I personally watch most of my anime in English. I only have one dvd of love hina and have watched in english. I don't really see a problem. I just want to know what others find wrong with it. Is it the translation, the acting, or the people they chose to do the acting (the voices themselves don't go with characters is what I mean.)

Acting.

Well, since you're used to dubs, I don't suppose you'll have a problem with too much stuff.

Understanding and sympathising with that dislike means putting yourself in the shoes of someone who's been 'brought up' on originally-voiced, subtitled anime. People like that (myself included) simply have affinity for the way Japanese voice actors play their roles. Anything else, to us, is a cheap substitute.

I laughed really hard in many parts of the one Love Hina dub episode I've seen that... I cried. It was too much for a subbie like me to handle

I've found for me it's not the language that I have a problem with. I can watch stuff in english if it's played by japannese voice actors. The american accents of subs drive me bonkers though. It may be elitest but it's too late to change now, I'm a subbie though and through.

Mostly is just miscast. I can understand what the ADR director Wendee Lee was trying to pull, but unfortunetely it led to really bad stereotypical voices and misinterpretation of characters. I really like English dubs, I really do but this really aggravated me along with anime series dubeed by Blue Water Studios.

Really? Noone uses 'subbie' anymore?

I distinctly remember, from the days when I was just getting into anime, the 'subbie vs. dubbie' wars waged over various internet communities...

Or maybe I'm just imagining this, and I've indeed created a new verbal monstrosity

Well, at one point, in the English manga version of Love Hina, a technique was used that I thought was quite lousey. It was like they were trying to make it seem like it was a traditional comic strip. Like so:

"Ah! Keitaro, you're stepping on my foot!"

"Gosh, Naru, I'm so sorry!"

I hate how words were made bold like that.

As for the English anime version of Love Hina, I didn't like Shinobu's voice (Not innocent enough) Naru's voice (not evil enough) Kitusne's voice (TEXAN ACCENT?!) Su's voice (RUSSIAN ACCENT?!) but I liked Motoko's voice (Scary...too deep, though.)

For me it's more of a question of getting to know a character with a particular voice. I first saw Love Hina in Japanese, so to watch it in English Keitaro wouldn't sound like Keitaro, or Naru like Naru. Like wise, I can't watch Dragonball Z or Cowboy Bebop in Japanese for the same reason.

I compleltly understand that. I really can't stand it when they change a characters voice. THat is one reason I don't really watch my animes in Japanese. Once I learn how to speak it then I will.

for me, it was just the startling difference in the voices from the japanese version that i originally watched. i suppose i am a "subbie."

was keitaro's voice the absolute WORST in the english version?

It's not how I imagined it, but I thought it was somewhat suitable. Keitato's voice, that is.
