Does any remember their first major contest.
Besides Anime USA which is descent size nothing compares to Otakon, maybe Anime Expo but that's too far away for me. Anyway butterflies are floating in my stomach in the intecipation of this event. Also very excited and happy. How about anyone else here. How did you feel about your first major contest event?

The first contest in which any of my videos were shown was Megacon '04. Naturally, I was anxious to see if my video made it into the contest. After just about each video finished, I'd wait to see the first frame of mine come up, because then I'd know I finally made it. When it did come up, and got cheered for right when it started, it was a great feeling. It got an amazing audience reaction, and no award could have made me as happy as seeing that people liked it so much. So it was a great experience, and definitely one of my favorite convention memories.

First convention contest I had a video in (other than PortConMaine, which was really small and which I didn't attend) was Otakon 2003. Unfortunately, we left halfway through the Friday night AMV contest screening in the interests of getting the younger ones to bed at a semi-reasonable hour, so I didn't get to see my video played until the Saturday afternoon screening in Video 1... and then no one laughed because, due to the bad audio balance in that room, they couldn't hear the "lyrics", without which none of the jokes made sense (and due to the nature of the song, the jokes went by pretty fast).

My first, I guess you could say major, contest was Shoujocon 2002. I submitted my very horrific "Utena in a Cocoon of Love" video in hopes of trying to at least get some applause. The Utena fans went crazy! Regardless of the horrible quality, and the strange song, they got a lot of the jokes, especially at the end! I was so nervous though that I had been clinging to my mom's arm the entire time. At the end of the video, I got a lot of applause and quite a few cheers, which made me *very* happy. It's rare that you'll win anything in your first major contest, but it's still a neat experience.

AX2002, In The End set to Evangelion. There was a video earlier that used the same song, and the audio was kinda messed up on mine, but the whole experience was still better than crack.
Also, being one of the 3 people who helped spawn the AMTV cotegory and only losing by a fraction of a hair to Shameless Rock Video was pretty damn cool in itself too

Mine was just a couple months ago, at SakuraCon 04. I premiered Dark Schneider vs The Army of Darkness there. From what I can tell, if Saito's Eleven hadn't shown I think I would have won Best Trailer, but that's just me judging from the audience's reaction. 8)
I was strangely nervous when it came up, but the laughter from the audience helped me calm down.
