But what irritates me is when an anime title is released on DVD (which means, at least in my book, that it should be uncut exclusively), cut, and then several months or years later they release the uncut version.
AMEN!! This is a very true point. On tv censorship should be the choice of the channel but when we spend somewhere around $26 to buy a dvd, I sure as damn hell expect the real version.

I don't think I've ever payed less than $30 for an anime DVD.

But atleast Kare Kano gives you a bunch of episodes. I hereby declare that all 26 episode shows are inferior to Kare Kano unless they are contained wholly within 5 legit DVDs, or less.

I'm going to say there are too many fat kids who get their only anime fix buy watching television.

Do you mean Canadian dollars or something? I just bought Azumanga Daioh disc 2 for $19.99 @ Best Buy. It's just about the ONLY place I buy anime now.

And I'm thankful to say that Azumanga wasn't censored at all. Even the Sakaki = Amerikajin: Tomo = Nihonjin part which I was actually a little suprised about.

Or at least put out both editions at the same time and mark them 'Edited' or 'Original'. Heck, they do it for most 'Widescreen' vs. 'fullscreen'. :!:

Best Buy is a bit less. Also, there's always ordering from online stores or eBay.

HeartbreakerByZep wrote:Obviously Geneon isn't the only one. FUNimation urinated all over every inch of Dragonball Z. And Yu-Gi-Oh (4kids) got similar treatment.
Actually, the first release of Dragonball Z, pretty much the saiya-jin saga up to a little bit into the Freezer saga, was edited that way by Sabban.

After Funi got fulll control, they slowly started to ease up on the editing. (voices were still horrible though) You can tell when suddenly the episodes when they're fighting the Ginyu force the first few of those episodes there's no blood, but then once Goku starts really kicking ass, there is blood.

The evil companies (ones that everyone hopes won't pick up their favorite title):

DiC
Sabban
Nelvana
4Kids (the name alone suggests injustice)

However, there is hope as it seems Funi is going to make a good rep for themselves by releasing uncut versions of Shaman King and Yu-Gi-Oh. I may not be fans of these shows, but that is indeed a good step in the right direction.

So what if one of those evil companies gets a hold of a show you hold dear, as long as another company comes along and releases a completely uncut, true to the original, I'll be fine.

Hopefully Funi will continue to release uncut versions of butchered shows just like what Genon and ADV did with Card Captor Sakura and Sailor Moon.
This might be a good thing, one company can release a family friendly version, while another can release a version to please the true fans of the show.

I never said my veiws on the matter. I do not aprove of censorship in any form. We should be able to know what we can handle and decide for ourselves what to watch and what not to. Unfortunately we live in a society that beleives we will not be able to handle what comes our way.

They beleive that we are not mentaly capible of deciding for ourselves what is good or bad. This makes me sick. How could a government that says we are capible enough to vote, drive, ect., decide that we are not responsible enough to watch what we want to.

You know what they'll decide what we aren't mature enough to do next? It will be along the lines of no more voting. Hey, if we can't be responsible for what we watch we must not be capible of deciding who is the most capiible leader.

Then we have censorship, no freedoms, and a dictatorship. Fun. We aren't capible to do anything. I'll stop ranting now. In my mind censorship leads to more and more problems. It should end.

I agree with you, but say over reactive/protective parents or even ohe of those people that bitch and complain to the city/state/federal government about every little thing they want see it, there gonna do what they do best, bitch and complain. They are gonna give Anime a bad name, saying that '...all they do is fight and kill people, what kind of example is that setting for the kids'. I sure none of you want that and I know that I dont need it, i have a hard enough time defending anime as it is now. People may be able to drive cars .. but look at how many accidents there are on the road in the united states in one day. People drinking and driving, some how managing to get into an accident in broad daylight, on a straight strech of highway, at the speed limit .. i saw that happen a few months ago. I hate people -_-'

Repeating a point that someone (Moonlight, I believe) made earlier: Many of us were introduced to anime through censored shows like DBZ and Sailor Moon.
