how do you edit ? [what is your editing process?]
just wana know how people edit their videos. do ya edit starting from the begining of a song till the end in a linear fasion ? do ya do individual sections of the song individualy, in a seemingly random order ? do you create a basic draft video first or do you go straight on from th begining ? what about effects ? do you do them as you go, or do you complete the video first without effects and then put in all the effects ? anything els worth mention about your editing style ?

I usually start out making some rough notes on paper with a few of the scenes that i immedietly matched up when i heard the song that i am choosing to use. From there i take it section by section in order. I'm not a big fan of skipping around because everytime i tried it in my previous video it ended up with deleting the future clip when i got to it do to the lack of smooth transition. I feel that if you do everything in order its easier to get your idea and or story across.
As for effects it really just depends. I have only made one video so far and i believe the only 'effect' i used was the cross fade. Basically its based on what your song, anime, and style is. I only use effects when i think it will make the scene look better or increase the flow and smoothesness of the scenes, never to make it flashy.
When it comes to the actual editing process i go fairly strictly by A&E's guide. Vobs - > .d2vs -> AVSs -> Mjpegs - > Edit -> AVS swap. It seemed to work out pretty nicely when i first used it so im sticking with it.

I go through the song, picking out bits that sound nice, to scenes I think work well. When that's done, I fill in the gaps with random footage. Err, random synced footage, if I can.

listen to music, think a song can be used in a vid, throw crap into premiere, 2-10 hours later i finish with a new vid..
during/between every step i consume atleast 2 mountain dews.. *10 hour editing 20 mountain dews, 5 hours 10 mountain dews* and an accasional wacking.. .
basically i have no style or way to edit, i just do it..

I've been tring different methods recently. I've cut the song into four pieces, then made four little videos and put them all together. That worked pretty well. Then I tried starting from the middle of the song, where the tempo picked up, and working my way to the end. Then I went back and took care of the beginning. For my next project I plan on a plan. I want to detail how everything will go together, especially sense it will be my first use of After Effects, and I don't want to screw it up.

sort source clips in wmm.
find lyrics and map the song by musical elements (tone, mood, instruments).
import the song, divide into ~20 second sections.
wmm crashes.
evil thoughts come to mind.
open wmm again and work (choose scenes, time, apply effects) on the sections i know what i want to do with first.

work on the sections i don't know what to do with.
put it all together.

Depends on the video. If I know I'm using a limited source (a movie, or a very short ova type series), I'll just rip and linear edit the vid. The rest of the time I map the entire video out scene by scene according to time markers (going through the song and marking sounds/lyrics and the matching clips). I edit linearly using my map and fill in the effects (if any) when they appear. Most of the effects I use *must* be done before the clips can be used (outside work) and I don't like replacing clips with edited clips - the timing is too easy to throw off that way. If it's a simple effect that can be added without cutting or changing the clips, I may keep it till the end then put it in wherever I want it.
I do cut my audio timeline into sections, according to how many clips are used. If I'm doing 3 frames per clip I'll cut the audio after 10 seconds or so - just to keep wmm from getting nasty on me. It also helps separate sections where I want the editing to vary - starting each one without seeing the past pattern. I like that, the idea of mini vids compiled into one vid. But then, I like not being predictable, even if it means I lack consistency. Consistence gets boring after a few minutes of it, heaven forbid I try watching it on repeat. ^_^;
