You could even make it themed and call it the dark side of anime and have all kinds of morally wrong scenes from various anime..kingmob_867 wrote:The Wall?!?! Do the Dark Side of the Moon instead. It is the greatest album ever!

You could always buy the Naruto dvd set from ebay I think there could be enough footage from 75 eps you could always divide the number of songs on the CD by 75 I'm not a pink flyod fan so i checked for the number of tracks and found 26.......so ytour defenitly gonna need another anime something with 60+ eps

And after that horrible non-anime Wizzard of Oz one. Lazy editor didn't even use and scene cuts, lens flares, or a clip of dancing vash...NME wrote: YOU'RE ALL HORRIBLE PEOPLE FOR EVEN THINKING DSOTM COULD BE AN AMV.
Dont read on if you are concerned about Haibane spoilers. I mention a few scenes very specificly that you would never see coming watching the show.
Anyhow, A multiple series thing would work great, especially where the original film for The Wall is in so many different styles. I know that EVA would be perfect for making a paralell of the "Good Bye Cruel Sky" sections with the warfare, destruction of religious symbols, and fields of bloody crosses. Besides, Grave of the Fireflies has already been used over a dozen times for that one.
At first thought I saw Haibane and, remembering the feel of the series early on, thought you were crazy. Then I remembered Reki's inner struggle and the significance of the Wall, the men in masks similar to those worn by the students in "Another Brick in the Wall, Part II".
Anyhow, my ideas, by song:
In The Flesh?:
Something with a guy on stage and some military imagary, the more nazi-ish, the better, or perhaps just a video montage from different anime made to fit the words.
The This Ice:
Princess Tutu, esp. episode 13 "Swan Lake", with a character falling through a "solid" lake, and several other scenes throughout the anime that would fit the music and lyrics for the rest of the song perfectly (it's an anime of great contrast and many themes, if really shoujo for the first half).
Another Brick in the Wall, Part 1:
Grave of the Fireflies. It's perfect, with the absent father at war, possible dead, and nothing left of him but his uniform (maybe a photo, I forget, but that'd really be perfect) and lot's of military imagary (the planes and bombing in the beginning would really nail this with the ominous sound of the music coming and the yelling at the end of the track).
Happiest Days of Our Lives:
Cruel teachers, not sure...
Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2:
Any classroom anime could work well for this, especially if it has all the kids saying even one word together (for class lip-sync). For a comedy effect, this would be awesome with Azumanga Daioh (Chiyo-Chan's reaction to sensei's driving for the "teacher, leave those kids alone, the whole class for most of the rest of the song). For a serious effect: the Touga in Haibane have masks similar to those worn by the students in the film, and Lain has classroom scenes that look a bit more somber. Still at a bit of a loss on the cruel teacher thing, though. Trying to think of something with people mindlessly marching, still a bit stuck on that one too...
Mother:
FLCL and/or EVA. Both Naota and Shinji have a lot of the issues mentioned in this song, with Naota being especially strong for the "mother do you think she's good enough (for me), mother do you think she's dangerous (to me), mother will she tear you're little boy apart, mother will she break my heart" section, while Shinji is especially strong for the "firing line" political section. Of course, you'd have to do something like using Haruko or Misato serving as "mother". Maybe you could use each anime for the part where it holds strongest, I know the film was all over the place in terms of styles and old Pink/young Pink on this one, so I see no reason why the AMV film couldn't get away with the same. If you are doing this as a multi-editor project, I'd love to take this track myself.
Goodbye Blue Sky:
EVA. You've got flying monstrosities (including that winged light-like angel-thing shown prominently in the apocolyptic scenes of NGE/End of Eva), fields of crosses that are covered in flowing blood, juxtiposition of religious and military imagery and the detruction of religious symbols, frightened people, falling bombs, and a post-apocolypse when "the flames are all long gone, but the pain lingers on" after the 'second impact'.
Empty Spaces:
Lain. She's so alone, and surrounded by machenery that fits the sound of this track perfectly. Then there's the chattering bobble-head Lains that make noise but don't speak.
Young Lust:
Perfect Blue - maybe, EVA (with drunk Misato) - maybe. You could use Interstella 5555 (awesome professional musical anime film set to Daft Punk) to good effect, making this a "stage" song in place of or in addition to being a "plot" song. I'm also pretty sure there's a phone in there somewhere that you might be able to use for the conversation - if not you can use something else. Chobits could also work, with the 'dirty woman' being Chii/Yuki/Shimizu.
One of My Turns:
Oddly enough, I did a straight-through sync of The Wall to Alice in Wonderland that a: worked and b: had what I thought was a great "One of my Turns scenes between Alice and the hookah-smoking caterpiller. But then, that might just be crazy. Unfortunatey, I don't have any other ideas for this one right now.
Don't Leave Me Now:
Argh...really at a loss for this one too. Pathetic pleas, domestic violence, a woman leaving...don't know where to find all three in one place. EVA might work, but it might be bad to go too heavy on Evangelion.
Another Brick in the Wall, Part III:
Another one that I can't think of a "perfect match" for, but that might sorta work with almost anything, if done right. The closest thing that comes to mind is actually Mononoky Hime, with San's rejection of all things human and pushing away the arms around her, spitting out blood (drugs - it's a stretch, i know) and so forth.
Goodbye Cruel World:
The fall/suicide in Lain or falling scene in Cowboy Bebop.
Hey You:
This is where Haibane could really kick in full force. Blend of dark and light mood, lyrical themes that could work with the Haibane plot. Not all lines have a direct matching scene (literally or figuratively), but enough of them do to string them together and work with mood. Use the 'light of departure', perhaps for the guitar solo just after "open your heart, i'm coming home". followed by the reaction of Rakka to Kuu's journey and the people trying to calm her down. The only a fantasy would work well for the well in The Bird, esp. with "the wall was too high, as you can see, no matter how he tried he chould not break free". Worms, though, maybe back to the dead bird, maybe to another scene like the growth of Rakka's wings, or, better yet, part of Reki's breakdown - even the crazy look of the 'evil Lain' might work for that line, if a series jump is acceptable.
Is There Anybody Out There:
Lain, with the "Cheshire Cat" and outline people, maybe. Eva, with Shinji in the white-light world where he is alone and without definitions or surrounding would be even better, with a come-back to reality to match the entrance of the guitar and a stage where you could then cut to someting with an orchestra (I know Shinji has a cello, I think End of Eva might have more) or to something else that you think fits the thickening arrangement.
Nobody Home:
There's a scene in Interstella 5555 that had me hearing this song as I was watching it for the first time, it fit so well. Bunch of musicians in a depressing, lonely apartment setting in the rain. Some other cuts from the film might help to match a few of the specific lyrics, but that one scene would really give much of the song. There's also another scene that's perfect for the "strong urge to fly" scene.
Vera:
Cowboy Bebop, the rememberences of Julia in the yellow light of Spike's mind. Lyrics match very nicely, though the "meet again on a sunny day" is a bit ironic considering the rainy graveyard where the reunion took place. All the better, given the nature of Roger Waters' own sense of lyrical irony.
Bring The Boys Back Home:
I'm thinking Grave of the Fireflies again, with something naval rally-ish from Seta's thoughts of his father.
Comfortably Numb:
Haibane again, with Rakka's fever and fall, the Haibane's trying to determine if there's "anybody home" in Rakka's cocoon, characters trying to comfort each other, and so forth. The light of departure again, for the "distant ship's smoke". Working in the black and blackening wings of Reki and Rakka would be great, too. The "just a pinprick" through "keep you going for the show" could be worked together with Reki prepareing for Rakka's wings, and Hikari putting on Rakka's halo.
The Show Must Go On:
Lain, I think. Not solid on any ideas in particular, though.
In The Flesh:
Return to whatever is used for "In The Flesh?", plus very military imagery from something like Eva with giant marching stuff and so forth. I rember seeing something animated that really reminded me of the walking hammers, but I can't remember right now what or where it was. If you can find something with people being singled out in a crowd under spotlight, that'd be awesome. I know there are soldiers rushing into a concert in Interstella 5555, but they don't really interact with the audience, they just kidnap the band.
Run Like Hell:
I think you'd have to really montage stuff together to get this one to work. Thanks to the nature of the song, though, you could really get away with that, making it a "chaos ensues" kind of video.
The Show Must Go On:
err...
Waiting for the Worms:
Really wish I could remember what reminded me of the walking hammers. You also really need to find a military-nut with a megaphone for this and the "In The Flesh" segments. Azumanga has a nut in front of a crowd on a platform yelling through a megaphone, but the mood contrast is a bit strong between something like Azumanga and this song.
Stop!
Rakka in the well again?
The Trial:
Princess Tutu has a climactic battle scene toward the end with a lot of characters that could be mapped to the characters in this song:
Pink: Mute?
Announcer: Ahiru?
Schoolmaster: Fakir
Wife: Rue
Mother: Ahiru? Rue again?
Judge: the giant red-eyed raven (all you ever really see is the eyes and a blurry black figure - you'd be lipsyncing to the eyes if anything [that's what the series did])
Eva could also work:
Pink: Shinki
Announcer: Kouzou (Gendo's second in command)
Schoolmaster: Touji
Wife: Asuka
Mother: Misato
Judge: Eva
I'd like to think of something with Haibane, but can't pull enough footage together in my mind, but with Haibane/Lain it might be doable. (I really don't know who'd be the Judge in Haibane, even the Touga don't really have the intimidation and crazy/disguisting/huge factor neccecerry, and there were no bitter wives or any mothers at all, with the only solid mother figure shown mainly in Reki's painting and childhood memories). I'm voting for EVA on this one.
Outside the Wall:
Haibane. The one's who really loved you.
may seeds of dreams fall from my hands -
and by yours be pressed into the ground.
and by yours be pressed into the ground.

Suggestion on one of these
Mobile Suit Gundam episodes 12 and 42...Gihren's propaganda speeches (the first, ironically, being his younger brother's funeral) are enough like Hitler's style that at one point his own father compares him to Hitler (and Gihren, the twisted maniac that he is, almost seems to take it as a compliment)
I know I've pimped out this anime more times than I probably should, but what the Hell, one more for the road:rose4emily wrote:In The Flesh?:
