Site FAQ updated

Post by AbsoluteDestiny » Wed Jun 30, 2004 9:24 am

After long last, the Site FAQ has been updated.

If any regulars feel that there are any questions of a frequently asked variety that aren't covered in this FAQ, please let me know.

Likewise if you think that an answer is misleading or ambiguous (or worse, incorrect!) please be sure to let me know so I can change it.

Thanks!

Looks good! ^_^ Much more informative now.

Not really necessary, but you might want to put a link in to the 'Forum-specific Rules' sticky. That would take care of questions about sigs/avatars/posting/etc.

Yes you are dead right. I don't know how I forgot that - I'll get on it right away.

Under 'What limitations are there on what I can upload?' you say 'see this forum thread' but don't actually link to anything.

Similarly under "How do I rip footage from video games?" you refer to the sticky thread but don't link to it.

Under "Someone has entered a video that isn't allowed on AnimeMusicVideos.org - how did this happen?" you say "These entries are no recommended". The word you meant to type is not.

Just a thought...
Where can I download footage?

This is a forbidden question. If you want to make anime music videos you should pay for your source footage. Do not ask this question on the forums, as your account may be suspended or banned.
Perhaps this question should be a topic, instead of just part of Video Making (along with d/l cracks of programs questions). They are asked so horribly frequently that making the question easier to find might cut out a few of the posts.

Also, some more explanation other than "...forbidden question." An example: "Using downloaded footage often degrades the visual quality of your video, and therefore is unwelcome from an artistic point of view. The offical stance of a-m-v.org is that you should own the footage you use in your videos. Therefore, do not ask any member of a-m-v.org where to find such files. A violation of this policy can result in your account being suspended or banned."

... my two cents.

I don't know if more explaination is really necessary. (There's something to be said for short-and-sweet, especially in a FAQ.) Besides, I think "If you want to make anime music videos you should pay for your source footage" is pretty self-explanatory. Anyone who doesn't understand why they should pay for their source footage will require more than a FAQ answer before the "get it". :(

Actually the first sentance could probably be dropped altogether. But maybe you could add another sentance about the video quality. So that may look something like:

"If you want to make anime music videos you should pay for your source footage. In addition, using downloaded footage often degrades the visual quality of your video, and therefore is unwelcome from an artistic point of view. Do not ask this question on the forums, as your account may be suspended or banned."

Anyhow, just throwing out another idea. There it is. :)

However, I don't want to get into a debate about video quality based on the faq. A downloaded vob file will have no less video quality than a one ripped from a DVD.

In terms of what seems morally right to do, you should pay for it - so that's what the faq says.

I guess I should of realized, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
