My style is based on mood, lyric sync, and a story.
-Mood because however the song affects in certain areas of the songs determines how I choose to apply fades, pans and/or overlays. All of which I like to use frequently.
-I use lyric sync a lot as when I listen to a song in the conceptual stage that is the main area I draw my scene selection from.
-Story goes hand in hand with the lyric sync however sometimes the story won't be found in the anime itself.
I'm a sucker for drama videos and currently romance as most of the video ideas I have are love stories.

I don't think I have that much of a style. I don't like repeating myself often so once I figure out how to do something well enough I doubt I'd improve in it I get bored and move on to something different. Kinda hard to develop a style when half the time I'm intentionally not using certain elements. Instead I try to make each video distinctive and don't worry about style. I do tend to center an entire video around one effect/mood/idea so I suppose going somewhat to the extreme with something could be my style.

I don't really know what my style is yet. Most of my videos have been rapidly different from one another. I try not to repeat myself sometime to unreasonable degrees. I have yet to synch into an editing groove since I'm always trying different things.
Although despite all that, I tend to hit TONs of beats. If theres a beat in the song, something needs to happen. I'm a sucker for mood however, and thats the key to most of my editing. I just try to represent what the song makes me feel at that particular point in time.
I think I may have found my "niche" with HTTT though. Thats my favorite video of mine and I want to really explore that editing style. I think the next couple of videos of mine will have a similar feel to them.
For other editors, hands down, Pual Keivits has THE most distinctive style out there. You can tell a video from that guy 500 miles away. A close second would be Fluxmeister followed by Lord Rae. Fluxy can do action/character profile better than anyone in the history of this hobby and Rae can do action/drama likewise.
Its a shame that Rae isn't very popular nowadays because of his old school editing technique of not hitting beats and huge long scenes. That guy can set a mood and tell a story better than anyone. Fluxy needs no explanation.
And go download one of Paul's videos!

I have a unique style in that I have no style - I'm 'anti-style.' I know how I'm supposed to edit, but even with standard things like 'beat = cut' I avoid doing the expected as much as possible. I'm visual, so I ignore people who tell me 'clash here - that means you were supposed to have a cut or an effect.' I just do whatever strikes my happy little mind, editing to either a certain aspect of the song (the piano for instance, or just the guitar, or just the drums, or everything but skipping the second beat for each instrument and doing every other beat for the 'top' two). There's a rhythm to it (except when I want to break the flow and catch the viewer off guard to get more attention to the new scenes or a new section), but it isn't 'right'. My style is that I'm consistently 'off by a few beats here and there,' or 'just hard to see what you're syncing to'. I like it that way, so that's the way I do it.
I think I settled into this a few months back. My older vids were lyric-based. Instead of syncing to the sound of the instruments, I synced to the sound of the spoken/sung words. Meaning a hard 't' sound got a cut. That's like foreign language to most viewers, so I quit doing it after a while. You don't see much of that except in my last few vids (I quit caring about the 'how to edit' rules).
I've experimented some - I have at least one unfinished vid where I did a bit of imitation to see if I could change my style (by adopting a *real* consistent style). But it wasn't me, so I killed it 3/4 the way through. I edit however I think a video should be edited according to the song and/or story motivating the visuals. So my only consistent style is that I lack any and all consistency in my editing.

I do this to an extent in AR, though if you do it right, it always "works" because your subconcious mind picks up on the rythm, even though it apears off otherwise. its kinda strange, I've seen it in a few vids. including some of yours.Arigatomyna wrote:I have a unique style in that I have no style - I'm 'anti-style.'
