Excessive use of AE....a new trend?

Well, not here, maybe on some other forum or in PM...although then no one else would be able to enjoy the event.

BTW regarding the issues of banning me, the primary reason why it can't be done is that my IP is only static up until the point that I give Charter a call and tell them to reset it. So in essence the more times I get banned, the more innocent Charter customers that will get cut off. Not that it matters, if AD or the other mods want they can easily lock this topic and that'll end it right quick.

but hell i get into it...

lets c...AE...AE...actually...to tell u the truth i hate AE as all hell...
im like koop more or less...i just use two tools...i use flash soof how he would MSpaint...which actually is just about as good as any drawing program...not layering...drawing..PS sux hard at drawing...
i also use the good ol premiere 6.0^^
now on the other hand aside from wat u other n00bs do...i program my own plugins...

effects should used in order to heighten a point or emotion or aspect u want to show...also to make the video seem more original in order to give something new and show how the AMVs author thinks a certain scene should have gone...ive seen plenty of vids and AMVs using just simple transitions and opacities....badasss they came out i tell u...

as for those judging koop...lol...theres only one way to proove ur rite my boys...and thats to best him...the effects he uses are nothing but mere shapes and hes rockin ur socks...now thats thinkin man...

so dont all just jump on AE...hell...in PS 7 with the rotoscoping utility...u can do a job a hundred times better than with AE^^

its not the tools that make the AMV...its the way u think it out...

The biggest realization, however, is when I saw the AnimeNext 2004 AMV contest. I'de say a good 70% of the videos that competed were a sloppy mix of AE effects done to a random action song/ anime.

Uhh... did you see the same contest I did... ?

I guarantee you about three/four people in that contest, total, have ever opened Adobe After Effects.

I think that it's funny that people who have clearly never touched after effects are pointing their fingers at it and making rediculous claims. It has a big effects button? it has loads of 'default effects'?? Are you serious? Most of the videos that I've seen and considered to be over the edge effects videos had nothing to do with After Effects. Premiere is more responsable for 'effects videos' hands down. THAT is where your 'point and click' effects are. 90% of the effects in AE don't even have a noticable effect when applied to a piece of fottage until you go through at least a few variables. You can't even drop 'tint' on a clip and have it do anything noticable until you adjust it. But I digress...

Saying that everyone and their mother is using After Effects to create alot of flash is like me saying that everyone and their mother is using trigonometry to accomplish the best ways of being completely retarded. Trig's not nessesary to be a retard anymore than AE is nessesary for effects. Get a clue people. I would go a step further and say the vast majority (not all just the majority) of people that go to the lengths required to actually function reasonably in a program like After Effects (beyond creating masks, etc.) are predominately patient enough to not throw together a simple BS effects vid.

Reguardless of any of that, to answer the original topic more specifically, no. I do not think that there is such a thing as 'excessive use' of any given program. Programs like AE ar basically just a toolbox. How people use those tools is virtually unlimited. Besides, if any programs were being used to excess... wouldn't it be Premiere? or maybe VirtualDub? oh oh I know!! WMM2 right?

Hell screw AMV's I think that paint is being used excessively by artists everywhere in the world. There are too many artists making bright colored paintings by using paints!!!! Paints are a trend!!! IT'S EXCESSIVE, RIGHT!!??! Why do so many people think paints are cool? You can do really neat stuff with a #2 pencil, therefore paint is unessesary. people using paint are just showing off!!

And people who bitch about who used what program to do what thing with which footage cause they think it's "trendy" or "played out"...... you guessed it ..... are tools.

Well that is more than I had intended to say ^_^.

Anyway, I personally don't care what people use to make their videos. I care about if they are nifty or not. Period. There are no methods of production that will persuade me to not give a good video a good chance.

I just saw a DBZ vid today that I liked. 0_0!! Good thing I wasn't obsessing about their source material or programs they used, or I might have missed it
