mmm.... the thread title is a little -- shall we say, ambiguous?

If you meant 'who can remember their first AMV?' - who doesn't?

Course I do. The video quality was a 'little poor', but I still loved the editing - and it was incredibly fun making it. I've made 6 more since then, and obviously remember each vividly as they're all crucial lessons in developing my editing style.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Actually, I don't remember my first vid very well at all. I remember the weeks before it, trying to find some way to turn dvds into something wmm could read, and comparing prices for dvd-to-avi converters till I settled on one that didn't cost too much (turned out to be a beta with nasty quality, but live and learn). I remember looking for the song to use for that vid, and wishing I had access to my cds (I had one cd at the time, oldies from the 50s). I remember ripping dvds for days, trying to fit as much footage on my comp as possible (testing the new 60gig promise). And I remember showing the finished project to my roommates and friends online (under 5mb wmvs, zipped).

But the actual editing? No clue. I did 8 vids like that and the only one I actually remember any part of the editing for was one where I'd gone back and switched clips after making it the first time (same scenes, but the quality was better in the series than it was in the special dvd I'd used the first time). Back then, the confusing, difficult part was trying to figure out the programs, not the lay/cut/export of the vids. It wasn't until I visited the org again and noticed the 'guides' that I was able to understand ripping. Once that became rote, I could focus on the editing itself. I remember my 'post-Org' vids just fine. But my first pre-Org vids stand as a monument to a fangirl's glee at having a new computer and a chance to actually *do* something with my anime dvd collection. That's just a pleasant haze, looking back on it. I still can't figure out what I was thinking with some of those early vids.

Well, it's probably different for people who make 6 AMV's a year vs. people who make 90 AMV's a year :P

Every one of my AMV's is like a saga in itself, or a postcard from the past. I was in a different mood every time I made one, I remember what the timelines looked like, where the errors are...

...though to think, it might just be my obsessive memory.

My very first attempt at editing is long gone since my computer crashed. Although it was a complete video, I never premiered it because it was made from Love Hina fansubs. In all honestly it absolutely sucked compared to my next attempt at an AMV months later. BUT it was still a learning experience. I made so many mistakes in the first one and I guess it was good to just get them all out of the way. It got me out of my hokey transition phase for one...

The first one I premiered was a lot of fun to make and it was definately a good step in the right direction. It helped just to watch AMVs for a while before attempting to make another one. For what it's worth...I honestly don't think it sucks for a serious first attempt. And I realized that I actually CAN try and do this.

I've made another one since then. I took a couple of months off but I'm currently trying to finish two projects I started a while ago.

I remember mine. I don't have it though, but shadow13 does and whenever he'd love to give it to me, THAT'D BE GREAT.
