Angel, your observations are nothing short of "interesting" and possibly even "intriging".

Personally, I think as long as a dub has at least some emotion, and characters portrayed as being low on emotion (such as Genou from Eva) should be that way.

And personally, I found the dub for RahXephon pretty good. ADV gets trashed a lot, but they have done some good things, take that into account.

Pioneer tries to do what you were talking about (get VAs that sound like the originals, ex: Trigun. Also, trying to keep the lines as close as possible to the original... To companies that DON'T try to do this... I ask this.... WHY?!?! Is it REALLY that hard?)

Well there are some instances where even thought the original script gets changed to a certain degree, the result can actually be BETTER than the original. For example, couple people said that Shinesman is A LOT better than the original Japanese dub because the VAs from Coastal Carolina Studios added that sarcastic humor which surprisingly worked really well.

Or FLCL. I can't remember what it was in the original, but they changed some Japanese soft drink name to Crystal Coke in the dub because it was an equivalent more accessible to American audiences.

I used to absolutely hate dubbing--then I saw Cowboy Bebop. It took some getting used to, and I'm still not thrilled with Ed's voice, but now I have a hard time imagining myself going back to the original Japanese VAs. FLCL right now can go either way for me, but I'll probably wind up sticking with the English (once I buy the series) just because it was a lot more understandable when I watched it that way, and not just because it was my second time through the series...
