I tried contacting an editor once for advice, but never got a reply. I think I tried a few diffrent e-mail accounts I could find. ...That was a few years ago though.madbunny wrote:I don't get it. This has been suggested numerous times in the short time that I've been reading these forums. Lots of people SAY that they are willing to be available, and yes there are some very real pros and cons to the whole process as well.
You know, there are lots of editors that are perfectly willing to help you. Just don't expect them to come beating down the doors. I have had some pretty good luck with PM-ing some editors, and through the AIM method later if they seemed so inclined. On the other hand I've also helped several people through the AVS process (it really isn't that hard) the same way.
So when you read back in the software help forum, and see your exact problem, odds are that you will also see a response on how it was solved. You could follow that response, PM the person that posted originally to see what they did, or even PM the people that helped.
I figgured out just about everything I have wanted to know since then. If anyone needs help and is working on a mac, I can help now. If your looking for tech. advice on a pc. though, I can't help. -_- I'm good at bouncing ideas off of though. cause I have a secret notebook where I write them all down so I can backstab you later.
...I mean, um, I really um...
Sorry, my evil sliped out.

What Pie Row said... actually, he's one of the editors I've PM'ed to ask about some aspect of one of their videos in the past. Another one was AD, who directed me to a site where I could get a whole bunch of word/thought bubbles and cool fonts (both of which I proceeded to use in DV:UI). So seriously, you've got nothing to lose by trying.Pie Row Maniac wrote:Won't know til you try, padre.mudholestomper wrote:so while that may have worked for you bunny, it wont for me and nor for many many others.

due to the nature of human psycology, and the limits there-in it is so not that simple. =| but, lets not go there alright? just take my word for it. please.Pie Row Maniac wrote:Won't know til you try, padre.mudholestomper wrote:so while that may have worked for you bunny, it wont for me and nor for many many others.

Look, if you're stuck give me a PM and if I can help you I'll do it. If I don't know the answer then I'll tell you. How much easier than that can you get?
I teach this stuff to high school students, so I'm pretty used to getting a lot e-mails about various common issues. A few more from the .org isn't going to kill me to answer.

You know It's funny I don't mind answering a question here and there. But taking on an apprentice? seems a little rough. I could probably speak for a handful or more editors who have spent alot of time and effort learning either through studies, or just banging at it enough times to just get it.. I feel I would be cheating someone to sit down and hold their hand's through the steps and headaches I had to go through in order to get where I am.
as for forming a group I don't see that being to bad of an Idea. Hell I have friends that I bounce Ideas or need betas worked on and thats cool. but were at the same level, and gain just as much from them or even more than what they gain from me. and it moves forward.
I just feel stopping or slowing down in order to bring someone up to my level would keep me from continuing to push myself forward.
A question answered here and there doesn't hurt. but I think mentoring is a little off. IMHO.
Just my 2 cents
