Pledges page appearing
Hi.
The pledges page appears again each time I try to download a local video (that I haven't necessarily previously downloaded).
Which is strange because I donated.
Although I have nothing against this page reminding me that I should donate a little more, the text in the page says "if you donate, you won't see this page again..." which is a little bit ironic (don't you think ?)
I'm using FireFox 0.8
Is this a problem with my cookies ? (I don't think so because I'm obviously logged in since I can download...)
Or is it a bug ?
Thanks for any help you could provide,
Erwan

Re: Pledges page appearing
According to your vid profile page, you haven't donated - Total Leech.WilLoW :--) wrote:Which is strange because I donated.
You do know that donations disappear over time, right? I mean, if you donate once and don't keep donating that same amount periodically, your status goes down. Theoretically, it'll keep going down till it disappears. I've been wondering if you'd lose your priviledges once that happens, and if you're getting the pledge pages again, I guess you do. Too bad, since they say you can do 'one-time' donations.
Has it been 12 months since you donated last?If no other donations are made, the status will be lowered to "Participant" after nine months then removed after twelve months.

You're right, it was the 25th of May last year, that's probably the reason whyArigatomyna wrote:Has it been 12 months since you donated last?If no other donations are made, the status will be lowered to "Participant" after nine months then removed after twelve months.

No, what you said makes sense. It still registers you as a donator here - on the forum - it says it under his name. But the little 'status' description changes over time (like it says on the pledge page). So if you donate again, it would start going up (or take up where your old pledge status left off) - or if you don't continue donating, it'll go down till it doesn't show on your vid page (but it still *counts* the total amount - that way if you do donate again, it will keep adding it).AbsoluteDestiny wrote:Sure but your forum status says "donated".
There are either two records or one of these isnt reading right
So long as the priviledges don't go away with the 'title' it would be a nice motivator for continued donations. I noticed when mine first dropped - it doesn't change your forum description, just the vid page one. And your 'donation page' still counts the total donations you've made, you just aren't credited for them with the title after a year of not donating.

Do you know how that would work? I mean, I've been planning to donate again (for this year), but would it make you start from scratch, or is it really accumulative (like the pledge page says it is)? If it's accumulative, it would just add onto what you've already donated - so your 'title' would go back to where it was and start going up again. If not, and you start from scratch, then you might want to edit the pledge page so it doesn't fool people by saying it's accumulative (because if you start from scratch after a year, it isn't accumulative at all - at best it's only accumulative so long as you keep donating the same ammount every year).AbsoluteDestiny wrote:Sorry Willow, maybe you could donate again
Still, don't you think it's a little sad that the person who made a one-time donation of $1500 is now considered a leech because he hasn't donated since then? They really should take off that 'one-time' donation promise. The way it's set up, there's no such thing as a one-time donation. You have to donate every year. You can't just donate a lot at once and expect to get by with that. If I'd known the way it worked, I'd have just donated in sums of $5 so I could be considered a donator for longer, rather than thinking I could do it at once and have that be the end of it.
I really don't like the 'one-time' donation part, it's an outright lie the way things are set up and tricks people - small print is for the profit agencies, not for the org, makes it seem cheap and underhanded. And I *know* they didn't mention the status disappearing over time when I donated last year (when the donut was first set up). I think you should get rid of that 'one-time' donation description for yearly pledges. It gives the wrong impression to people. If they can only donate a set amount, they're better off splitting it up and rationining it out over time.
