Wow, I didn't realize how many of the editors that sparked my interest in AMVs are actually not much older than I am. You learn something new everyday.

I myself started editing when I was 16...I'm 18 now and yeah, I do have to admit I don't edit videos quite as frequently as I used to, but I generally have huge stylistic differences between my videos now. By a large margin, usually (or at least, so I've been told).

I think a good portion of it does rely on natural talent, and a somewhat larger portion on your dedication and practice. Natural talent will only get you so far, it's the dedication that pulls you through the gap from being a newb to being one of the experienced creators. When I was editing my first few videos using only VirtualDub I had some horrible videos because I only put a few hours into them. When I started putting more dedication, patience, and time behind my work, starting with a four-day project, then learning how to use Premiere and spending practically a month on a vid, and then jumping back down to four-day projects and then back up to a two or three-week project, and then finally pulling in a concept I'd had for over a year into the making, the level of expertise naturally had grown. Taking time on the video does require a certain level of maturity, but it also requires that dedication, and dedication is something that anyone, despite their age, can have. That's why there are a few really exceptional editors out there below the age of 16.

Let's see...

Started watching anime (dragon ball z dubbed v_v) in Fresh Man Year of Highshcool. Before that I had never heard about it, from anyone. Kind of got into it with out a personal helper (I was the lone freak at school for a LONG time) then slowly converted a lot of people, and a lot of others caught up on there own as well. Now I think there is enough to start a club at my collage, easly. (Thinking of doing that)

...Er, started watching music videos in Softmore year, did not learn about the org until really late, like 2002 when I got my membership.

So to rap it up...

"Into" anime at 2000. 16ish

Editor since 2002ish, which would put me at 17/18, and now I'm 20.

"someone in the back": We don't care! Who the hell are you?

...sorry

Lets see..I got into anime and amv's and amv editing all at the same time..about 2 1/2 years ago...And I'm 29 years old now. Jet (my oh so loving hubby ^^ ) got into the editing aspect of it late last year..and he's 31. So I fall in the range of age with Ash and Paulo as well ^^

Someone said that age affects the music chocies you tend to use in videos and that's true..I've used quite a bit of older stuff in my vids..

Well, if you count slideshows, then I started at... hmm... 12-13...(I was only aware that MeriC made AMVs at that point).

But if you don't, I started at about 14 1/2. Now I'm 16... lol

Wow! I didn't realize how many "older" kids were into this kind of thing. Does this mean I could be hooked on anime until I'm 50?

I mean, I'm constantly hearing "you're too old for cartoons" and what not - Now I feel better :D (Cause I'm just a little 18 year old punk :P)

Very generic answer from me, I guess. First video was when I was 18... I'll be 22 in a couple weeks.
