Waah, I need help! [where do I start?]

Post by Squeaky-chan » Wed Jun 02, 2004 4:58 pm

So, you see, I am a bit slow. I did not realize until recently that AMVs existed. When I did realize this, I immediately saw that I had been deprived of the holiest of the holy-nonsensical bits of anime put together in time with a completely impertinent song. Or not quite so random. My question to you is what equipment do I need? I have Photoshop Elements 2.0, real player and the like, CD-ripping/burning hardware and software, a DVD player built in my computer, Pentium 4 processor with HT. I have Windows XP and I find it extremely frustrating, because until last Christmas, I was using Linux, and occasionally Windows 98. Help me, or I may cry...

Go to the member main page and down (bottom left) to the 'guides' - check the 'all things audio and video' guide. It will take you through the process of ripping your dvds, telling you exactly which programs to download along with links (most are on www.doom9.org ) where to get those programs. They also mention the main editor people use to make videos - Premiere. I think you can buy it for a cheap price of $300 if you're a student and get the discount, otherwise it's about 700 or so. And you'll want After Effects so that's couple hundred more. Or, you can check the 'programs' sticky in the 'software help' forum - it lists all sorts of programs you can download or buy to make vids with.

Hi, welcome to the org.

The guides are great help, I wish I had known of this site when I started making amvs. :( If you want to start out at low cost, learn a little, and try out your ideas, use the windows movie maker in xp. It doesn't have the power of Adobe Premier but it's free, fast, and does a credible job. Many of the videos here have been made using it, all mine were. :)

Good luck, hope to see your videos here soon. :)
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

Come and join us on the tiny but fun forum at http://www.allanime.org

If you need help with Linux stuff, trythil knows A LOT about it. He was telling me something and I was lost when he said the first word I didn't understand.

I plan on starting a Linux box soon though...

Here's what I use though:
Magix video deLuxe
vDub
CDex
SmartRipper/DVD Decryptor
AMVapp
HuffYUV codec, DivX, XviD, a few others...
Adobe Photoshop 7.0
My scanner
and studio members to make bumpers for me.
