Editor age
Hey. I'm posting this cause it's somthing I thought about in the back of my head and never saw a convo on here bout. The question here is does age really matter in editing AMV's. I'm talking about actual person age and not experience age. I've seen some editors 13 and some 21 so this is almost like a survey. This is just a random thought in the middle of a new vid i'm on...and an excuse for a break
Feel free to answer or just ramble, hah. Later

I think the acerage age is somewhere in the late high-school o early college years. Of course, we have a number of younger editors on one end, and Vlad on the other.
From what I gather, editors tend to be the hardened fans. So, take the average fan demographic and shift it up a few years.
Of course, this is ignoring the editors who create the random LBZ vids, as they are more than likely are new fans doing something random (and, they think, creative and new).

I was 23 when I made my first amv, now I'm 24 and I still wouldn't count as one of those 'hardened fans' since I didn't know anime existed till I got to college (I was 19 when I first saw anime, Sailormoon, dubbed, talk about being behind on the times). I do think age determines how people act, and how they react to things like the environment editors find here on the org, or even at cons. But age doesn't matter a bit when it comes to the actual process - not the steps involved in editing a video itself. If anything, younger children learn technical tricks quicker than older people do - mastering Premiere for instance would be no stranger for a younger person than teaching a foreign language to a child - it's a matter of whether or not they have to relearn things. Age difference doesn't matter with making amvs so much as the things surrounding it - the before and after.
If I had to make a distinction between the kids and the adults here, I'd say the kids have more freedom when they start - imagination wearing away with age in my country (US), while they are also more likely to be 'wowed' without doing their research first. And when the video is finished, kids are more likely to be hungry for praise than older, self-sufficient people are. But that's a generalization that just plain doesn't work here. Consider for a moment that this is a community of pariahs, children and adults who watch animated shows that aren't even 'mature' enough to air on normal television with the Simpsons. Even the older editors are likely to need that praise, to give themselves over to the community the same way the younger (perhapse lonely) editors would. The lines blur when we get in a mass like this and you can't tell a teenager from an 'adult' unless you really listen to a person outside of the video-making itself. And even then, some people mature more quickly than others and you'll find those immature 20yr olds out there being shown up by the mature 15yr olds. It's a forum, and a closed community. Age doesn't matter a whit after a while.

Depends upon how fast did your left side of the brain develop. Globaly watching....12-15 year olds make crap. Reason, immaturity. There are some exceptions of course, like Xnod, but other than him everything I've seen so far is crap. Now we have a category of late teen and early college years 17-20 in which the quality of videos is mixed up. There are really good creators, decent creators and creators that produce crap. And we have a category of matured people who make videos (20 and above). Look at the age of the creators that are most respected here: AD, Koop, Wonka, VegettoEX, Vlad, Kusoyaro etc. Those are all mature people, college students or even married people (maybe
).
Even looking new creators I get the feeling that older ones give out better results and advance faster. If we compare AD & SSJBrolli who registered in the same year and were completely the same in their n00b glory what results do we get? AD was in his 20's when he first joined and Brolli was 12 years old. In 3 years Brolli hasn't improved even a toe when it's up to creating and as for AD....you all know.
This is all of course a personal way of seeing things which are based upon personal experience. It differs from person to person.

I'd have to say, age doesnt matter.bote wrote:Now we have a category of late teen and early college years 17-20 in which the quality of videos is mixed up.
No matter what people say, age doesnt matter at all.
You can be 15 and be the prodigy son of AD and be a fantastic editor.
Or you can make linkinpark videos. Weather or not you actually do is up to you, but comparing all 12 - 15 year olds as crap, I think thats a little steap.
