AMV Working Conditions

Post by Lone Wolf » Thu May 27, 2004 4:59 am

Last night, I was 'accidentally' towel-whipped in my left eye by my sister's friend. It was with a damp towel end, mind you. Guess what? Right after that, I was planning on doing some editing and online reading. I'm having trouble typing this up as it is.

Now why the Hell would I want to edit with one eye?

This got me thinking: what kind of 'conditions' do you edit under? Do you have siblings that make it so you can't hear yourself think let alone the audio? Do you have someone that constantly needs the computer and you have to give it up? Do you have a health condition that makes editing a pain in the ass?

I also have an eyelash or something stuck way up under my eyelid and I can't get it out. Now I'm sitting here laughing like I'm insane because the world's about to end and I can only sit back and watch. Pathetic, huh?

I'm currently staying at my parents right now, coming home for the summer and I have a younger sister. Everytime I sit down to edit all I hear is "Gonna blast my hommies till they die mothafuckas" and all that garbage making it very hard to concentrate on anything. Especially when the volume is high enough to make your head explode, which I wouldn't mind if the music didn't suck.

currently, until my new pc makes its way here, my frustrations have to be the lack of any sort of speed on my pc, the lag of using a 500mhz p3 has kept me from editing for about 9 months now :(

oh well at least my athlon 2800+ will be here next week

I edit on a 733Mhz p3 all the time cuz I'm too poor to buy anything better.

I do a lot of editing on a laptop, which pretty much means "where other people are not."

I find siblings really helpful: My bother is a casual AMV watcher (meaning he watches what I download) and he has been a AMAZING beta tester. He will actually watch me sometimes when I edit (I'm in "tweak" mode right now so I don't mind) and point out problem areas, ask questions and even make suggestions, a number of which came out really nicely. He'll probly start editing himself one of these days.

Only problem I have editing when I'm at home, where my 5 person family shares a computer, is people leaving things open and slowing everything down.

I live on the third floor of my house, and keep my room at the perpetual state of messiness which means that my parents never bother me. Occasionally I'll get a call to turn down my speakers/wear headphones, but aside from that I can edit in peace.

The only distraction I have to deal with is a haughty cat (who is not my own, but I've been suckered into watching for five years) that demands attention the instant I sit down at the computer and runs away when I get up to pay attention to her. Typically neko.

The up side is she gives me useful feedback on my vids.

I don't have very many outside distractions when editing (having a lack of siblings helps, I'm sure), aside from the times when my parents feel the need to blast the television in the room next door. It's hard to concentrate when I can't hear my audio (thanks to 20 decibels of Tom Brokaw).

I have a roommate who likes to blast his techno music. That will soon change when I move in a month or so and can stick my computer in my room, thus making privacy capable while I'm on here editing or whatnot.

As for personal conditions, I'm mentally slow at times
