It's more the use of the word, to mean anyone who is stupid/a jerk, that makes it hate language than anything else. It makes it seem like the person using the word (in that fashion) hates homosexuals.

Also, it's not the most politically correct/polite word to use for homosexuals; where I come from, at least, the word itself is considered offensive.

That's how it's hate language.

Given the way it's used anything can be offensive, but he was simply making a suggestion on what to say. He wasnt actually saying it.

In any case, I used to get a lot of e-mails like that, mainly because people just really want opinions. I was on the Top 50 opinionators of the site for quite some time, and people just wanted some indepth opinions. It depended how nice their e-mail was ^_~

I have gotten one email asking for an op so far, but he/she asked nicely, so he/she is in the list to get opped. What I get more, are random people suddenly IMing me on Aim, and i'm like.... WHo is this guy? I don't know any "insert name here"....
