You haven't made it to half my age.

Why feel embarassed? Is anime less of an art form than a live movie? Is it less intelectual or adult than the movie "Dumb and Dumber"? Is it more sugestive than many sitcoms?

My son got me into anime when he was in college. He brought home Ninga Scroll, I was impressed with it. I'm not embarassed to let people know I watch anime ( not much embarasses me at my age). If they say I watch cartoons, I correct them by saying, no, I watch anime. Now my two married daughters and their husbands are into anime, several of my relatives are too. I got to attend Anime Detour Con this spring and had a great time. Most of the people there were High school or college age, I was definately in the minority age group.

If your parents think anime is just kids stuff, show them Grave of the Fireflys, or Millenium Actress, or Princess Mononoke. There are probably a number of animes that they would like. Dads usually like high tech adventure stuff. Moms are harder to impress, my wife still thinks I'm crazy to waste my time on this. Oh well, to each his own I guess.
