FACT: Comedy is one of the least popular genres used when people make videos

Talented creators hardly ever make comedy videos. They are fun to make an everyone likes them so make them goddammit!!
I don't do comedy. My humor only goes one way --> I'll laugh at what I think is funny......but I can't tell a joke to save my soul. :?

AbsoluteDestiny wrote:*shrugs* I dont care about the popularity of it all, that's irrelavant, I just like to see comedy videos and find it such a shame that so few talented creators even try to make comedies.
The amount of bad comedy videos in contests these days is so disheartening.
I think the main problem is that most of us think that to make a "funny" anime music video, we need a funny song. And outside of Wierd Al, there are virtually none (that I know of). Which means having to resort to either instrumentals and just throwing a bunch of random scenes from a comedy series together.
Of course, comedy is very subjective ("what the hell are you all laughing at" - is what I thought the last time I saw something trying to be comedic at a convention). Besides, it would take a lot of planning to pull it off.
It's better to be sucessfully popularist than a failed pretentious auteur.
Why? Says who? And what the hell does that mean anyway?

"The foundation of comedy is timing" -John Clease
Editors fight with timing anyway. Comedies would just be harder. That's one possible excuse. Other than that, it's just hard to find songs/audio to do the video too. About 80% of the comedy ones are to Wierd Al and he only has a finite amount of songs. If anyone knows somewhere else to get funny audio tracks, please post.
This is a painlessly short sig.

Listen to a wider variety of music. I could rattle off a few bands I already like that have made fun songs - They Might Be Giants, BNL, Moxy Fruvous (I've only heard a tiny bit of Da Vinci's Notebook, but that was fun too) - but really, retool the common assumption that "funny" = "remade lyrics to previous songs" and you'll find a lot. Cripes, IWIWAL was by somebody most people have probably never heard of. This is a strange assumption you're making.

Besides, most of the stuff people assume is by Weird Al is by random other people, radio DJs and stuff.

Of course, you could also go the comedic-irony route. I've considered doing a video for my own entertainment (not to release) that's a serious song, made so dramatic that it flips over into so-melodramatic-it's-amusing.

There are a lot of possibilities; sticking to the obvious is probably why a lot of comedy videos don't feel right.

I agree.

I think the bottom line is though that if your heart really isn't going to be in to making a comedy video, it will NEVER be very good. Its silly in my oppinion to try to encorage people to make comedy videos for the sake of makeing them. If they have a halfway decent idea though, thats a different story. I'm not saying they shouldn't try, they just shouldn't feel like they SHOULD make one.
