Who here thinks that anime is better than accual tv or movies? I think anime gets the point out better, along with much better acting(although its just voice)and visual. I seem to get more of a feeling through anime more than live action movies, it teaches more about life and problems you face. Do you think that anime might be more well known in movie theaters some day?
btw i was thinking this all in graphic design class heh

I wouldn't exactly say that voice actors are better than movie actors but I have to say I prefer anime to a lot of the stuff shown in theaters.
and now I begin to rant and rave...
Anime is better (such is my opinion) than most real live movies because it tends to be a lot deeper. A lot of self discovery and philosophy appears in anime. This kind of stuff doesn't really get adressed in many movies. Probably because movies, on average, only last about an hour 1/2 or two hours. And anime normally has at least 26 episodes, so anime has more time to get really deep and get interesting. But that's just a theory. For the most part, a 25 minute episode of anime can have me reflecting and thinking, more so than with most movies or tv.
There's also a lot of crap on tv and in movies. I really don't care too much for reality shows ( I don't know about everyone else but that's just me). Then there are the dreaded teen movies. *shivers* They are a perfect waste of money and talent (if any at all) if you ask me.
I agree with whole-heartedly on anime getting things out better, visually. The main reason you won't see stuff like this on tv is because it's more expensive to to create really cool effects and have it look good on television and movies. Not saying that it isn't expensive to create cool effect in anime. But there are a lot of cooler things you can accomplish with animation than you can in live acting.

hmmm, depends on the anime and... the other stuff.
Ex: Star Wars (A New Hope), imo, is better than pokemon, or dbz, or digimon, or yuyu hakusho... It's a movie I like vs. animes I don't like much, whereas, say, I like Chobits better than the second LOTR movie.
Generally though, I like more anime TV series than live action or American animated stuff, and I have more live action movies than anime movies that I like (corresponds to the number I've seen)

Anime is a commercial (audio/visual) medium. And just like live-action videos and film, there are a few good things to watch.....and a whole lotta crap to shovel through. What makes it superior to live action is that it is an Art Form in the true sense of the word. It's moving pictures, literally. There are few (if any) limitations in what can be done with animation.
But to answer your question, I do find Anime better than tv and movies. For one thing...in all the years I've watched video/film, I have never once cried at anything, until I watched anime. Lots of anime moves me to tears - live action...no emotional impact at all.
The reason I think you and I (and others) may feel more responsive to anime is because it is animation. That is to say, when most people watch tv or movies, they don't really care about the stories because they can't see past the actors - they are just not interested in the "characters" they play, what they are doing, who they are, and just what the hell's going on. Why do you think Van Helsing did so well at the movies despite the insultingly amaturish story? Because Hugh Jackman "starred" in it. Whoop-dee Fuckin' Do! That and the crappy CG made it look 'cool'.
With anime/animation, we may recognize the voice actors, but all we see are the characters - who they are in that world/story. We are so used to seeing "reality" every moment of our waking lives that to see any more of it through some idot box is redundantly boring. Animations is an abstraction of colors and shapes outside of our experience. It can only exist in 2D space whether projected on film, screen, or drawn on paper. Even the illusion of 3D or hyper-realism is still an attractive visual lure.
Also, with regard to narrative structure and storytelling, Anime doesn't necessarily rely on conventional "Hollywood" formulas that westerners are used to. So much of it seems refreshingly unique, which makes it much more attractive and interesting to watch.

Do you seriously, in your heart of hearts, think anime is inherently better just because it's anime? That the best live-action movie you've ever seen is shit compared to Beyblade merely because Beyblade is animation made in Japan?
I'm sorry if you do think that, because I think it completely misses the point. I think it's about the message, not the medium. I don't watch anime because ooo pretty paint! I watch it because some of the stories interest me. I don't watch live-action movies/TV to watch people move around; I watch those because of the stories too. If one were swapped for the other with the intent and spirit intact, it wouldn't make a bit of difference to me.
I think I have to revive my old sig now.
