I'd take your definition of pampered so long as you weren't comparing it to Goku - as far as I can see, Goku was pampered, Vegeta was treated like an obedient pet. It makes sense to me that Goku would turn out good natured and Vegeta an old prune. I won't touch the psychology of it, though. I'd get off into the concept of slavery and whether favored slaves were better off than free and hungry bums, and that just starts an off-topic debate.
Regardless, Vegeta is way too sour and temperamental - reminds me of a kid who throws a tantrum becuase he never gets his own way, when really he just doesn't see how good he has it. In that manner, I definitely agree that he's a whiner. >.< He's the token 'loser' in dbz more than Krillin ever was, purposely so since he counters the ever-bright Goku. At least Krillin can laugh at himself.
[And I don't know Shinji so I can't compare the two - I've never seen Eva and I plan to keep it that way.]
. People have had WAY worse childhoods than him and come out much stronger at the same age. I had little respect for Shinji, but I didn't actively want to kill him, either.
