Funny that you mentioned that. A old girlfriend of mine used to refer to me as a 'man-child' She said that I show my man side whenever I stumble home drunk, get into fights, scratch myself... etc. And my child side surfaces anytime I just chill at home relaxing with a video game (which she consided to be still for kids), anime (which she consided as just a cartoons for kids), or reading a manga (which she considered to be just comic books for kids). But now she learned that anime is not just for kids, unfortunately that was the same time she walked in on while I was fapping to hentai. Her:  Me:

Actually, come to think of it, the only time I do get childish is when I get into those "Uh-huh/Nuh-uh, Is too/Is not" fights with my four-year old niece... :(

So...did she classify that as "man-side" or a "child-side"?

And I guess you know to lock the door from now on... :?
Another pointless post!

A little of both I think, but I think the childish part was that I started without her, and besides she was my gf, why would I need to lock the door?

Ick. No offense, and I realize the irony, but ick. Sounds like she walked around with a head full of stereotypes and, unfortunately, expected real people to act like that.

While there is an element of regression in any entertainment-based hobby, in my opinion - it's about kicking back and enjoying something without being uber-serious or dragged down by reality, which is kind of kid-ish - personally, I'd say the labels are more accurate flipped around.

Anyway, hopefully all of you with problems with people yelling "nerd" and such will have better luck when you're a bit older... many people grow out of that obsession with conformity after high school, and learn to have more respect for other people's tastes. And if they don't, well... it's a bit pathetic on their part.

Feh, this depresses me. That's all I've got to say on that subject. :P

Sarah, you're too easily depressed. :?

@topic: I don't date anime fanatics or people whom i have nothing to talk about but anime. Same thing goes for anything else. I find that to be unhealthful, tedious, and unreflective.

I'd still copy their stuff, just no date. :P

Mine was easy, I met her at a con 2 years ago and she was a bigger otaku than me and she has similar love/hates as mine. We are engaged now. :D

Same here...that's why I want to try having a girlfriend that likes anime. :?

Alright, here's my story: I go out to watch Van Helsing with this girl that likes me, and I like her back, though I'm not exactly head-over-heels, as it seems she is, so...we get back to my house and I put in a Bruce Lee movie, afterwards coming in the middle of an episode of Wolf's Reign, then watching FLCL and a bit of Inuyasha...the fact that she would even try it gives her uber points ahead of my ex-gf, who laughed at the very aspect of me playing videogames, so I didn't even try telling her I was into anime! Now, this girl is my gf, starting just minutes ago! WHOOO!!!

Toss The Dice

Well I suppose it is a nice bonus.

Some people will always view animation in terms of bugs bunny and not an art form. Common a lot of the Matrix comes from Ghost in the Shell.

On the other extreme some of the convention type people do seem to be trekky people that found a new addiction.

I have to agree with earlier comments that a lot of convention type people are pervs. Though most people are weird in some way.

Anime has grown a lot over the years so there are a lot more options.

Try to find an anime you think your girl or boy friend may like. Ease them into it with things like kung fu, The Matrix, The AniMatrix, and finally anime they might like.

For those that don't know the average age of video game players is 23. There is also a Playstation in 1 in 3 homes in America.

For the girls that play games don't be embarrassed. A lot more girls play games today than in the past.

Of course what would I know.
