I know exactly what you mean about the whole time travel thing, it took me awhile to figure that one out, but if her grandfather keeps having to make up dieases I think thats proof enough those guys are right. Time doesnt stop either way, obviously cause InuYasha is always doing something when she goes back to her time.
They say InuYasha is the only one able to go back to her time, I wonder why? hmmm *strokes chin in wonder* hehe... oh well, its anime creative license!
As far as her missing school, I'm sure if it were real she would not get off that easy. In Japan most schools have a school week that consists of 6 days.. mon-sat. Usually they are very strict and expect a lot out of the students. So if that were real life, I don't think Kagome would do very well, thats for sure!
It sure would be awesome to travel like that.. Talk about an adventure,
*sighness* I wish I could be an anime character, than I could have InuYasha! swoon! ^_^ InuYasha when hes mortal *drools* ok I'm done, I'm a dork, sorries!

In which case, it would be like having two timelines - two 'alternate timelines' - past and present.genestarwind21122 wrote:In the answer to your question. Time continues on in both worlds. Because in the case of time, time doesn't freeze and the well conects Kagome to her time not to the time she left where she can pick up again. It's not like a VCR or DVD player where you can hit pause and pick up where you left off.
So instead of traveling to *her* past, which would in effect stop time for her since the future is not determined so long as she's in the past, she just hops to the other timeline and hops back to her own after a few days have passed in both worlds. They do that in dbz, too. But they never mention there being two 'realities' in IY, let alone that her presence in the past is effecting a change in *that* timeline's future.

To answer everything here, it is a cartoon and anime to be more specific. They don't have to pass school, because it's not real. And the makers of this take full advantage of this.
Consider this: They will travel very far for many days, but it only takes her a few hours to get bandages and supplies from the modern world. How can she go so fast to the well and then back to her companions but take several days to get to a new location and do the whole thing again?
She goes alone, and doesn't even seem to know her way around.
The ONLY answer (other than her being a ghost/god/zombie warlord) is that IT DOESN'T MATTER and you will all watch it regardless of what strange and completely unrealistic thing they do next.

Actually, that's a great way to put it. ^_^ But it still means she's traveling from the past to her own future when she goes home. Maybe not the future of her body (since she lived in it), but the future of her world (her reality). Just think, she could be peaceful at home, go to the past, and come back to find that aliens had landed. It's the future, anything could happen. o.opyro_256 wrote:the way i look at it is that time is a line, for example, like this ------------ and kagome always travels back a certain distance which never alters, so as time passes, the place she travels from and to also move forward. i hope this is coherent enough to be helpful.
Heh, I like the 'nothing matters' idea. But I'd rather have some 'logic' to the way the anime is done. So I enjoy hearing thoughts about how the anime is 'explained.'

there's nothing logical about time travel. it's not possible, because if a person goes back in time to change something, it will have been fixed before they went back. and if it was already changed, they wouldn't go back, and if they didn't no change would occur, thus creating an endless cycle of what i've just written.Arigatomyna wrote:But I'd rather have some 'logic' to the way the anime is done.
that's just my opinion of why time travel is impossible, and because that's the way i believe things are, i have to support the 'nothing matters' idea.

what youre talking about is a time peradox. like if you go back and kill your mom before she had you, then you were never born, and therefore you could not be able to go back and kill your mom. trippy.
now a days, though, the multi-universe theory is widely accepted (i think it was the subject of a bad american jet li movie). it's believed that if you could travel to other universes, then you could travel back in time in THAT universe.
what seperates our universe from other universes can be anywere between trivial and significant. for instance, maybe we're in world war 3 in another universe, or earth life forms are made out of silicon instead of carbon, or maybe a universe is just like ours exept its its 1/2 a second behind. or 1/4 of a second! or 1/8 of a second! because there are endless possible differences that could seperate this universe from the next, there are an infinite amount of universes! therefore, if we could travel between universes, we could pick one that's just like ours and travel back in time to see first hand major historical events... or even witness the big bang itself! wether or not we'd be able to interact physically with these universes is up for debate, but they're leaning towards no.
also: black holes are a big part of this theory. scientists just found out that there are sub atomic particles coming OUT of black holes! even though sub atomic particals are THE smallest pieces of matter, this is a HUGE revalation! as you probably know, black holes are so strong that they suck in light, and for something to be coming OUT of them, it has to be traveling faster then the speed of light! and were are these paricles coming from? BABY universes! not that theyre any smaller then our universe, its just that light hasnt reached as far in it as ours. no, if your thinking of sending a space ship into a black hole, it would rip it apart. i mean, it would take every atom apart, no joke. but, presumably, all the protons, neutrons, and electrons that make up the ship would end up in another universe. thus making trans-universal travel... techically possible. i mean, really, am i the only one who reads stephen hawkings? sheesh.

whoa, blacked out a minute. what happened?

Time continues in the past when Kagome is in the future. There are several episodes where we see the characters from the past 'waiting' for her to come back.
I only remember a couple instances where Kagome might have changed the past. 1) there were no shards before she went to the past. In any case as the show defines having a shard as a requirement to travel (excepting for some reason Inuyasha, thus breaking it's own rule) the shard must be whole and present in the future.
In a 'middle' episode we see a shard attracting a modern monster (I don't remember which one). Thus implicating that there are now shards in the 'present/future', a condition that likely would not have existed before.
Oh, and X2 on the idea that she travels a set distance. It simplifies a lot of things.
After a bit of searching I found this: Yokosuka Middle School handbook (has various attendance info, but is made for the military base apparently so might not be super pertinent)
Yanagawa Junior High School rules - less stuff, but nice little pictures on how to dress and what path you are allowed to use to get to school on your bike.
Another one from Hyago (sp?) Here.
have fun,
B

You have to be demon or have a shard to use the well.
It probably didn't work for Yura the Hair because a) she didn't actually go INTO the well b) her soul was in the comb and c) it's anime and they aren't that careful about rules.

Hmm, yes I'd forgotten about her. Then again, she apparently defied a lot of rules anyway, like the big one about dying when killed.
So demons are allowed to use the well? I thought that it was 'shard dependant'. About "c)" point taken.
