I ask because I could probably (at least after school gets out) create a nice guide for editing video using the tools available in Linux (MEncoder, Transcode, Cinelerra, CinePaint, AVIDemux, Audacity...). It seems that the theoretical information is all well covered, as well as some of the popular Windows tools and a separate guide for Mac users, but I saw a hole around Linux (maybe for a reason - there probably aren't too many other people even trying to edit video using only open-source tools). I do know that a technical update is due for AVISynth and XviD, but I unfortunately can't install and use the first (too bad, it looks like fun), and am not yet the best person to talk to about the gritty details of codec parameters and internals, using more of an educated guess and trial-and-error approach to getting good compression results.
may seeds of dreams fall from my hands -
and by yours be pressed into the ground.
