  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.

There's this thing called the Golden Donut that lets you upload as many videos as you want, for free! Fancy that...

Also, please stop the gratuitous bumping. And what's with the RealMedia file? XviD is free...

Because you're bitching about bandwidth and the Golden Donut has an infinite amount?

RM format is low-quality and is usually accompanied by viewing problems. I know I can't watch it due to some issue or another, and many others can't (or don't want to) as well. And I'd suggest XviD because it look good and doesn't suck.

ok, but one question... what do you think the file range would be on it, does it make you videos very large file size?

One more thing...

Post by MetalGearRexMGS » Thu Apr 22, 2004 11:15 am

Also...

Note: I am not a big video format, codec knowledge kind of guy. when I make videos, I have a program that makes a copy of my DVD into AVI, then I put it all into WMM, make the video in AVI format, then convert it into RM. Thats it... I was looking at Xvid and all the instructions and stuff looked like Hebrew to me... >_<. Anyway, yea, thats why I use Real Media, though ive been looking for something that can deliver higher quality and is as easy to use for a while now. If you know of any very easy video converters, please tell me. Thank You

This is why AD writes the guides, it's not meant to be a cakewalk. You can't expect good quality unless you're willing to put in the effort to figure out what the hell it all means (or even if you don't understand what it means, you should put in the effort to blindly follow AD's instructions, as he knows what he's talking about).

Relatively, XviD delivers high quality for low size. I got The Children Project (a 10-minute video) down to 95MB and it looks fantastic. You can generally expect 10-15mb/minute depending on what you're doing, how compressable the file is, whether or not you've run filters, etc.

When I see an AMV that I'm interested in downloading, I generally expect one of two things: that it's an MPEG1 with a high bitrate, or that it's a DivX/XviD file. If it's RM or WMV, I'll avoid it like the plague unless it comes highly recommended (which RMs and WMVs rarely do), and I'm probably not wrong in saying that many other AMV-watchers are the same way. The problem with those formats is that they're closed standards and you can't really do much with them aside from what the encoders let you do, and they produce mediocre quality to begin with.
