Tsunami Jones' Weekly Anime Review: Mahoromatic

Mahoromatic: Automatic Maiden (spoilers = light)

When combat android Mahoro shows up at Suguru’s house, and wants to be his maid, his life is nicely turned upside down. Unfortunately, Mahoro only has 398 days before she stops functioning . . .

Mahoromatic is another wonderful series produced by our talented friends at GAINAX. The series is funny, dramatic, heart-warming, and sports some of the best combat animation that I’ve seen. And speaking of animation, it’s top-notch, which is pretty much expected. It’s also some of the best that I can think of that’s in a TV show and not a movie. The series is full of bright colors, and the scenery and character design is very pleasant to behold.

Besides their design, I found all of the character’s personalities to be very likeable and enjoyable. Except one. Suguru’s teacher is probably the only character in anime that I might actually hate, and I think that the series would have been far more enjoyable if they had replaced her with just about anyone else.

Besides Ms. Shijiko (forgive me if that’s not the right name), I enjoyed this series to the utmost. Everything is well done, music included. The music is very good, and I have to say that I absolutely adore the ending theme song. All in all, it helps to enhance the viewing experience greatly.

Another thing I definitely thought was cool about Mahoromatic is one of the extras that comes with each DVD. Each volume comes packed with Mahoromatic paper dolls! Very interesting, and . . . well, unique.

This show is definitely worth buying, although at the end of each episode, I always find myself slightly depressed, as a counter appears and shows you how many days Mahoro has left remaining. This definitely gives the series a rather serious overtone. In the end, I give Mahoromatic: Automatic Maiden 4.5 out of 5 stars, and I suggest that everyone try to see some of this series. It’s well worth it.

See you all next week!

Hrm, I've considered this series in the past, but I've such extremes from different people that I've been putting it off.

I certainly wouldn't say it's worth buying right off the bat. I suggest watching it, if at all possible, before making any decisions.

The combat... is decent, in my opinion. When there is any. A lot of the story is based around Mahoro living the way she wants without being who she was before (a combat android). Of course, people show up who don't like this idea so of course she'll have to knock a few heads together.

The thought show is good. But if it's not your type of show then forget about it. You also have to watch both seasons to get to the real ending.

I will only say this about the ending of the second season: WTF, and very touching... in a WTF kinda way...

Suguru’s teacher!!! She is HILARIOUS! But yeah... very dislikable, I like her because her character's character is one of a kind. If you are an anime fan who likes outrageous characters then you have to see her!

Oh yeah, Mr. Jones, I don't keep posting after you to belittle your awesome reviews. I do it because the more points of veiw the better right? :D Keep up the good work

Now I'm curious. What exactly happened in the end (I don't plan on buying it though)? Don't forget to use "spoiler tags"!

I would definately try to watch any series before buying it if possible.

And yes, there isn't much combat, and part i'm mainly refferring to is the "flashback" scene of Mahoro when she was still in full combat operation.

And as to you posting after my reviews, I don't mind it at all. The more perspectives given for something means the better people will be informed about a paritcular anime. So feel free to continue to do it. :D

I still want to say it is an awesome show. If you can handle a cute show with some drama later on in the series. Oh yeah, a few ecchi parts to boot

Well, you'll have to excuse the brief half-arsed explination because it was a couple months ago that I saw it, if not more...

*Spoiler of course*
HAHA! Fooled you! Now go watch the show!... you're not? Then I guess you can PM me for it >.<

Yeah, Gainax did it again. The signature mind-fuck.
Spoilers wrote: Ok, this is one of those series that is mostly light hearted fun (and lots o fan service, but then the ending hits like a ton of bricks. Yeah, it does.

Basically, Mahoro dies while fighting off another android, which leaves Suguru in shambles.
So, he ends up growing up to be an "android assasin/bounty hunter".
He gets betrayed and wounded and generally is feeling all that great about himself (he's still pissed that Mahoro died, and so is basically hunting androids, though he too has become part andoroid over the years).
Well, alien commanders feel sorry for him and somehow revive Mahoro and send her to Suguru.
He doesn't believe its really her at first, but then he says something dirty, and she imeadiately perks up with her signature line "dirty thoughts are wrong!".
Suguru realizes it really is Mahoro and teh two live happily ever after. Or as much as you can in a Gainax show.

Yeah, this is a highly condensed, and detail lacking summary, but its been months since I've seen the show, and it really is one of those thing that can't really be explained, you have to see it for yourself.

OH HELL YEAH!!

She is frickin' hilarious. But kinda creepy how she is always stalking Suguru
Also, she is apparently immortal

Oh, if you like that.......

Watch episode 3 of the second series.....heheh

Actually, the whole series is fan-service laden and humorous.

That's why the ending is like WTF!? because the show actually gets serious. Just what you'd expect fom Gainax, the mind-fuck awaits you at the end
