People always say that subtitles should be cut out, but...

so i guess overall
don't use subs unless those specific subs that appear, are subs that you intentionally want in the video, otherwise, take them out or just don't add them
least, that's what i'm getting out of all of this... and logic of course [no harshness implied or directed to anyone btw in case that sounded sassy]

Personally, I still like Thorax Entertainment's Your Hinascope despite the obvious digisubs being left in. Somehow I don't feel they detract from the video at all.godix wrote:For subtitles to work you have to make it damned obvious that you intentionally meant for them to be there. Others have given examples of videos that used subtitles well and in each case it's obvious from the start that they are supposed to be there instead of just accidently left in.

I also like that video too despite the obvious digisubs. However the subtitles don't add anything to the video and it's obvious they weren't meant to. Compare that to a video like Lollipops, Sunshine, and rrrRRRrrr where it's blatently obvious the subtitles were intentionally put there and the video is great enhanced by the subtitles. So having subtitles won't kill a good video (although it will kill an average video) they won't help unless it's plainly clear they were meant to be there instead of just left in.Scintilla wrote:Personally, I still like Thorax Entertainment's Your Hinascope despite the obvious digisubs being left in. You mean that's not what Iniquity is saying?Scintilla wrote:Doki pulled a similar stunt with his Fanime/Otakon video last year, but the difference is that he just made those up.

There are 2 ways I can think you can go about this other than slowing down the speed of your clips.
You can go check out the subtitle removing guides in the guides section, although they can be quite extensive
Or if you have the ability, crop out the subtitles. That's what I did in my <a href=http://animemusicvideos.org/members/mem ... 44>Chobits Video. I used fansubbed material so the quality isn't great and cropping will only make the image bigger, so it'll degrade the video quality a little, but it looks a lot better than leaving subtitles in that you don't want
