I've only edited with one computer. I could barely watch vids with my old one, let alone make them. My new comp, and hopefully my last:
2.133 GHz AMD Anthlon XP
512 MB DDR SDRAM
60 GB Ultra DMA hard drive
(with up to 64 MB shared video memory)
32 MB DDR SDRAM
(Integrated ProSavage DDR KM266 graphics
with 32MB shared video memory)
CD-RW
DVD-ROM
(16x max speed)
I don't know what half of that means, but that's what was written on the sticker the comp came with. ^_^; It runs nice, just a little slow when I have too many programs running at once.

40GB small? I edited my first video on a 1.8GB HD. The video file, Premiere and Windows alone was almost the entire drive! I swear one more txt file and my system would've blew up!Otohiko wrote:bote wrote:Otohiko wrote: Athlon XP 2400+

I thought mine was pretty darn small.
But generally speaking, 40GB of mine are taken up by crap anyways... and yet I still manage to get around - even though I only used HuffYUV editing until very recently!

How's your editing controller working out? I've been oh-so-curious about them.Zarxrax wrote:My Navi consists of the following:

Crud. Did I say DVD-R? I meant DVD-ROM.
Personally, I always thought the main factor in video playback (if you're just watching videos and not playing games) was the processor... I don't do much if any gaming either, and onboard video has always worked just fine for me.Declan_Vee wrote:Not sure how much difference having a not-so awesome video card is going to make... I'm not much of a PC gamer (I actually spend an awful lot of time poking fun at them)

Current setup:
-Dual Athlon MP 2400+ (clocked @ 2 Ghz. Duals are an editor's best friend and a better friend when free
)
-1024 MB DDR RAM @ 266 FSB

-Adobe AfterEffects 5.0
-Virtual Dub 2.5.2
-TMPGenc
-DVD Decryptor

It's quite handy with Vegas, but only if you are editing in a fast codec like huffyuv. If you edit from something slow, its pretty worthless. I also can't really see it being quite as usefull with something like premiere, as premiere lets you scrub the timeline a lot better than Vegas does. Although thats not to say it would be worthless with Premiere or anything, just not as usefull.Declan_Vee wrote:Zarxrax wrote: How's your editing controller working out?
